Finally, A Productive Weeked!

I've been sitting on my ass for months -- I've worked so many hours during the week that the weekends have been used only as recuperation time. This weekend, thanks to being back on dayshift for a couple of weeks, I'm finally feeling human enough again to do something other than serial napping.

I also had motivation. A friend from work is coming to eat a late Thanksgiving dinner with me. Patricia is a very meticulous person. I want my house to shine -- not only clean, but well organized, decorated and looking just totally great. I've always been a deadline kinda gal -- I need the extra motivation of someone new coming to visit to get some long neglected things done.

I scraped the popcorn off the ceiling in the half bath about 6 months ago. Then I did nothing with it. About two months ago I dabbed some deep cherry red paint in the corner of the ceiling. That was a definite NO. Then last week, maybe two weeks ago, I went to Home Depot again and this time bought a deep grayish blue for the ceiling. It was a good color.

I cashed in my "slave labor" coupon that Karen gave me for my birthday in September. She helped tremendously on applying the tissue paper and painting the ceiling but she wasn't feeling the blue. She said I didn't have any other blue in my house. She said maybe I should just paint the whole ceiling silver. I said NO. I like the blue.

Karen did many little projects for me and Allan even kicked in some "slave" time and put together my new kitchen table. Lacey had already put the black chairs together. While Karen was spray painting her little heart out, I got to cleaning in the kitchen and den. Plus I put my old dining set and wine rack on Craig's List to sell. I got multiple calls from two people that eventually came to look at the furniture but didn't buy it. I was disappointed. But another lady is coming to look at the stuff Monday evening so I still have hopes of making a $100-$150 -- keep your fingers crossed!

But today, after delivering Lacey to Karen and Allan's house so they could take her to meet her dad in Jackson, I came home and took a nap. Thennnn I started thinking about Karen's little comments about the blue ceiling. I started working on the ceiling -- just touch ups. But then I said to hell with it and painted the whole thing brown like the walls. Note to self: it's much easier to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls then you don't have to be precise about the line between two different colors.

So long story short, the half bath is finished -- with textured brown ceiling and some new deep cherry red towels. It's freshened up and looks pretty good. It's acceptable. I'm happy. The dining area of my kitchen is new and freshened up with a new table and chairs, white shears that will be real white drapes after Christmas, and free space on either side of the table instead of a baker/wine rack filling one corner and a little cabinet thingy and an extra chair on the other. I'm going for a clean look -- kinda Pottery Barnish instead of just barn. I've acheived the look in the dining area, I'll work on the kitchen side of things this week.

Lacey took her good camera to Louisiana for the week while visiting with her dad so I had to settle for pictures of the bathroom with just the cell phone. But you can get the idea. It does look better in person, I promise.
