Be realistic about the future and accept that things might change/not work out/end differently than yuo might like, yes, but DON'T LOSE HOPE, either. Mike and I made the long-distance thing work, too - we've been dating for eleven months but have only ever spent one anniversary together.

He leaves to go back to Purdue in a few days, so we'll be separated again, but if you work at it I've come to the awareness that long-distance relationships CAN work. If you and Ed both care enough to deal with the hardship of not being able to see each other much, I see absolutely no reason why you would not be able to make it work.

It's tough, and depressing, at times. But it's doable.

I didn't say I would say anything if you married him. Just beat ya senseless. :)

Everyone makes judgment calls based on what they would do in the same situation. And whereas they know that they couldn't pull it off, they assume the same of you. Whether the loneliness, the expense or the temptations would get to them first is different in every case, that's what they think about.

Don't think about those. Think about . . . oh, god, I can't even quote this without gagging . . . no offense, just waaayyyy too chick-ish to even contemplate . . .

"He is what makes me smile in the morning. He is what makes me look forward to tomorrow. He is what makes me love who I am. He is a one of a kind. A fish that you don't throw back."

::shudder::

Sweetie, ignore anyone who thinks they know you more than you do. Like you said, you're not 10 anymore. It's your life, live it.

That beating is a heartfelt promise, though. :-P
