sympathy and shame?

this is something i took out of some one elses lj that lives in england... its about their veiws on our disaster... what a load of bullshit.

America, we are not showing cruel disdain at your unfortunate disaster.

We are showing anger.

You, who call yourself the mightiest nation on Earth, are killing your people through neglect, incompetence and greed.

This is why we have this so-called "anti-American" sentiment.

Not because you are more rich. Not because you are more free. Not because you are more powerful.

But because beneath the shining veneer of wealth and strength lies a country that needs to be saved from itself.

We do not rejoice in loss of life, but we do not accept those losses that could have been prevented.

America, you have both our sympathy and our shame.

we are NOT killing our own 'people through neglect, incompetence, or greed.' you think we WANT our people to die like this? we want to stop it. we help so often in other countries we never thought of helping ourselves. we have thought ourselves invincible for too long and that was our fault for not taking earlier actions when we saw this storm start. But honestly, it is extreamly easy to underestimate nature. nature is not always predictable so you cant blame us for thinkinking it wouldnt be this bad.

now that the damage is done we are trying to do what we can. where do other countries  have the right to say that we are being greedy when we are spreding the victmes all aound the country for housing, the mayor of detriot has opend our schools and homes to them so we can share the load and txas is inviting them there, there are the shuttle busses that are taking victems from the damaged states and bringing them to better ones. we are all trying to help. there are a few misled people down south who do not think we are helping but thats because they wont let us. if people want our help they have to stop looting the stores and shooting at the volenteres. those are people the government has no controle over. dont call our country greedy based on the actions of a few people.

i see no reason for other countries to be showing anger toawrds us for having a NATURAL disaster. the key word is NATURAL... if they are angry at us for taking our time in deciding what to do, then they themselves would be making rash dicisons... we HAVE to take our time because we are dealing with more than just that one area now. this hurrican has caused more problems than just people left homeless. we have rebelions, we havein creases in  gasand oil prices, and then there is the fact that no other countries are helping. i've heard of them offering their so called sympathy but no actual actions have been taken. it's not like we are rich. in fact we are very much in debt. we are willing to go farther in debt to help other countries but as soon as we need help no one else steps in.

not everyone in this country is a fan of george w. bush but he is our elected president and i can not help that. he is doing his best at this moment to decide what course of action should be taken to deal with the issues the hurrican has casued. i do not aggree with his damned war in iraq but i do agree with what he is doing here in our country at this moment. if any other major country would step in and actually make an effort to help, we might get through this a little batter off.

without the help though, we might pull through and become a stronger country. we might be better united and pulled together. i jsut wonder how long it would last. people felt more unioted after 9-11 but do you see people showing patriotism like that any more? no. it lasts for a little bit but it doesnt stay forever. i wonder how long we will remain united this time.
