A happy hooker, that's what I am

I finally found a great shawl pattern and started crocheting again. I started this current craze by crocheting (single crochet, very easy) over all of our wire coat hangers. We have some of the plastic hangers, too, but those remain yarnless. So far. At any rate, I've been thinking of making another shawl for myself, ever since my old one got ( Read more... )

Hooray for crocheting!

Want a quick, fun crochet project? Similar to the hangers? Take a pair of cheap flip flops, a skein of "eyelash" yarn (Like Fun Fur or Bernat Boa), and do the same thing around the plastic straps on them. They come out SO cute! I did some over the weekend in black, and I need to post a pic still.

That sounds interesting. I might try it sometime. Right now I'm busy with the hangers and the shawl. I need to build up the handle of the hook, too. I'm having problems with crocheting for any length of time because of my arthritis, it's painful to hold that slender hook for longer than a couple of minutes at a time. But I still enjoy doing it, and I enjoy the end products.

I don't just crochet the hangers to prettify them...most of my dresses and tops have very wide necklines, and they will fall off of a hanger that doesn't have some sort of grip to it. But I enjoy the looks of the hangers after I've crocheted them, too. I start and finish off with about 12 inches of chain stitch, and tie the loose ends into a bow.

Hmmmm, the Karp Styles are pretty expensive for single hooks, even with the price differential. I already have a pretty complete set of hooks. The Crafts Etc. hook covers might be a great help, though. Thanks!

And you are a cruel person to give me links to two new places to spend my money online. My husband will probably curse your name later on. Heh. Seriously, thanks, those look like great resources.

Sure thing! Thing about those Karp ones, though, is that if you have a hook you use a lot, it may be worth the extra $$. Also, Michaels and AC Moore regularly have 40% off coupons in the paper. If you're ever interested in trying one out, let me know. I'd be happy to pick one up with a coupon.
