- I just copied out two pages of poetry by hand, and now my middle-finger tendon hurts all the way to the elbow, and the palm and heel of the hand burns. Sucks. Wonder where I put my carpel brace this time

The anonymity factor on the 'net is, indeed, a defining factor of the beast. In most situations, I'm completely cool with that. It's just been occurring to me lately, however, that while I love the concept of lj, I really am becoming less & less comfortable with being the "true confessions" sort of gal that I am with such an open list of readers. Given who I am and what I need from this online journaling thing, complete anonymity amongst my "friends list" just isn't working for me. Even though I believe that that the anonymous comment in p's journal wasn't about me, the fact that it happened at all just hammered home my belief that it's a lot of trust to put your shit out there via lj, and then to watch as a "friend" or "reader" or whatever you call them betrays that trust with a resounding "Hell yeah!" from other folks -- ick. It's just not where I need to be or what I want to be witnessing right now

*nodding* The little "put your name and 'phone number in a private post so if you're in trouble we can call and get help" thingy which was going 'round a bit back was a good reminder that even "private" posts are readable by someone, somewhere.
That's not, in my opinion, a problem. It's the nature of the beast. It was just a good reminder of the old adage that NOTHING is private when it's online.
Whether someone can read your posts or not, there is still a factor of anonimity for the poster. I can put anything I want here, but you know me, so some things you can catch out as lies. But what about the more 'personal' things? I can say I think X way, but maybe I really think Y way and I'm embarassed to say it. Or whatever my reason.
Probably doesn't fit into the conversation whatsoever, but I actually stopped by to leave a nifty thing I found out: If you accidentally hit *Post New Comment* instead of *Post Comment* and 'lose your post, you actually haven't. If you it the reply to on that page (the one where the new comment window is), you will be taken back to your 'previous' reply. Neat, huh?
