- Apartment-hunting has got to be one of the most frustrating things ever. Today I've started more aggressively searching. One we didn't qualify for and the other two don't have any vacancies. I found a fairly inexpensive 3 br apartment in Takoma Park through CraigsList and I'm likely going to check it out either tomorrow or Monday night. So this means that Kristina would likely move in with me and Kate if she hasn't made any arrangements yet.
+ Today in my corrections class we went on a field trip to the Montgomery County Corrections Facility. I know it sounds funny, but I fell in love with the place. I really like their policies and philosophy. Unlike other facilities I've been to this semester, they have nothing to hide and are more accomodating to visitors. They let us go into the cell pods and see the inmates. We were able to go into the young offenders (up to 20 years old) unit and speak with one of the inmates there and look inside of a cell. I'm going to apply for an internship with the Pre-Release Center in Rockville. It would be really great for my career and it's paid (!!!).
+ We're going on a field trip to death row on Monday in one of my other classes. We're going to Virginia's Death Row and they're pretty hardcore there, so there will be a lot more to see than in Maryland. From what I hear, there are a lot of notable inmates in Virginia including the older Beltway Sniper and Daryl Atkins (of Atkins v. Virginia fame. Our professor told us that we're allowed to talk to the inmates if they ask to speak with us. I really would like to speak with Daryl Atkins but I know that probably wouldn't go so well. That man shouldn't be there. The Supremes really dropped the ball in his case (if you don't know, that's the case where the Supreme Court ruled that you can't execute the mentally retarded. But they stupidly stopped short of creating a threshold for what IQ constitutes mental retardation and left it up to the states to decide. Virginia set their limit really low, at like 55.. Atkins' IQ is 59. The authorities on mental retardation set the threshold at like 70 or 75, so the case did not save him. It's really sad)
- I miss hockey. I know that quitting the AU team was the right decision, but I really really really miss playing and skating. I haven't laced up in 3 or 4 months -- much too long.
- I feel like kind of a jackass for being all passive aggressive in my last post. Granted, I was feeling pretty shitty, but I went about it all the wrong way. Although I never did claim to be mature. On the same note, I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, I want to do for my birthday. I'm thinking maybe going out on Saturday night and then possibly a late dinner on Monday, but who knows? It also depends on if anybody is going to show up (and I'm not too optimistic about that).
+/- The NHL playoffs have started! But I can't really watch them because I don't have Versus or Center Ice and I work on Sundays so I can't catch the games on NBC. That kind of sucks. I'm catching all the ones I'm able to online, but it's just not enough! I need my Red Wings fix!
