the *horror*!!

I did a random google search on my name (as I do occasionally) and found all the nice work stuff like I anticipated, but then the horrifying happened. One of the top ten hits was the 'we_prefer_Angelus' Yahoo group, complete with about 20 or so entries of purely ME!

With my first and last name posted all over it, because I had no sense of self-preservation back then.

Granted, the messages are from 1999, but people can still click on them to read the absolutely horrible bad fic I wrote.

This is one of the main reasons I don't use my real name in any of my online activities anymore (unless I trust you to a certain extent). In my line of work, one of the many 'techniques' we use when hiring new employees or gauging potential ones, is to Google their names and see what comes up. (We do this as a 'let's see what happens' exercise.)

This is embarrassment to the nth degree, people.

So, does anyone have any advice on how to at least change the name on the Yahoo group eight years later? (Dear God - 8 YEARS!!) Keep in mind that at that time I was using a little known free-mail account that has long since been deactivated, so I can't prove I'm that person and I can't even remember the full address.

Unless I can get more work stuff posted online that will produce Google hits higher than this particular one, I'm screwed.

Also, since when did Yahoo open up their groups to scoured by Google? Because it wasn't there the last time I checked.

*horror*
