Weekend Review

So on a something of a whim (a planned whim, if that's possible) I went to Austin for an ex-coworker's wedding yesterday. I didn't have an invitation and he wasn't expecting me until I dropped an email to him earlier this week, but he seemed very pleased. It was a beautiful, fun wedding held at the Parish on Sixth Street -- although, the guy performing the ceremony had a pronounced lisp, so the actual ceremony part reminded me strongly of the marriage scene in The Princess Bride. In any case, I'm really glad I went -- it was great to see the wedding itself, but I also got to spend the day hanging out and catching up with some of the Starbucks folks, which was awesome. I miss those guys!

I bought the lovely couple a bathroom trash can that was on their gift registry at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was deemed "a receptacle of love" although I did include a disclaimer on the card stating that the gift was in no way a subtle reflection of opinion about their relationship.

Today I woke up at a leisurely hour, got my coffee, and headed down to Cheapo to look for cheap music. Afterward I decided to spend a couple of hours sketching at the Blanton Museum of Art, which really is quite an impressive little gallery. I don't think a lot of people realise that UT has such a fine art museum right there on campus; it's arguably better than the Austin Museum of Art. Currently it has a 19th century academic artists exhibit from the Dahesh Museum in New York, which includes, among other fine pieces, Bouguereau's The Water Girl. If you are in the Austin area, you should totally stop by the Blanton and check it out. Only five bucks, people -- that's a steal!

After the museum and visiting another former Starbucks friend, I headed over to my church to sing with my old choir before heading back to Victoria. There were only four people singing today (including myself)... but one of the others was a guy I had never seen before. He sang baritone, so we got to do a lot of harmony parts together.

He was also incredibly good looking, in the tall, blue-eyed, dark-haired, clean cut sort of way. Not to mention witty, educated, personable and rather charming. Damn shame he wasn't singing with us when I was actually in Austin. Naturally he has a girlfriend, so it would have been a moot point anyway (not that it wasn't already unlikely, given that I live in Victoria, but you never know).

So that was my weekend. How about you guys?
