Our local Farm Co-Op has begun, today was the first pickup. We opted for a single veg and fruit portion this year. I've decided to track what we get this year and see how much we really get for our money.
Today's take was;
1 quart strawberries
1 head lettuce (Bibb?) 1 lb 1oz.
1 bunch salad turnips (aka kabu, or Japanese turnip) 1 lb 2.8oz (we could choose one of salad turnip, radish, or bok choy)
1 bunch tatsoi (aka spinach mustard or spoon mustard) 10oz (we could choose one of tatsoi, mitsuba, or ... crap, another green I can't remember right now)
1/2 lb spinach
I'm already planning on sauteing the salad turnip tops tonight for a side. I don't eat a whole lot of salad at home, but I have used lettuce in smoothies with good results. I've also found a couple of recipes for lettuce soup, and for stir frying it.
I am a fan of the salad turnips. I like to slice them into rounds and dip them in hummus. Spinach is always good, and I'll be lucky if I get any strawberries before Chris scarfs them all. I've had the tatsoi before and enjoyed it in stir fry.
What I'm really looking forward to is blueberry season. There is nothing on Earth as good as fresh blueberries.
