I finished Tess of the d'Ubervilles today. Despite the slow start, it wound up being pretty good. I may make it my first review on
Goodreads, which I discovered about a month ago.
I don't know if it's just because I've had Twilight on my brain a lot lately or not, but Tess reminded me of Bella. Or rather, Bella as I believe Stephenie Meyer sees her- not always as she comes across to readers(which is what counts, but anyway). At first it was just my frustration with Tess's willingness to forgive others and blame herself that made me think of Bella, but the more I thought about it the more similarities I could see. As I thought about Tess, I kept remembering things Stephenie has said in defense of Bella, and I think that Tess is in many ways(there are differences, of course, but I'm referring to their basic personalities) Bella as Stephenie sees her. I wonder if Stephenie has ever read Tess of the d'Ubervilles.
I don't know why, but recently I've been watching speeches on YouTube. Famous speeches and Maya Angelou poems.

This talking portrait is possibly the creepiest thing I've ever seen, but the speech is incredible. Listen, don't watch. haha. (It makes me think of
this song)
