Another Book Meme

An awesome meme taken from
singnovember     in which I give unnecissarily long answers.

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?
Fantasy. I have read some science fiction that I liked, but I never browse that section when looking for something to read. I don't really care about aliens that much.

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback?
I usually get paperback because they are cheaper(you can buy more of them!) and more convenient to take various places(such as school). I do buy hardbacks if it is a series I'm following (I'm too impatient to wait until the paperback comes out), or if it's on clearance, or it's a book I really love and I think it deserves me owning a proper copy of it (I've been meaning to get a hardback copy of Gone With The Wind).

Amazon or Brick and Mortar?
Amazon, but I don't use it that often for books- only if I can't find it anywhere else(like the Outlandish Companion).

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Borders- they sponsor Leaky and did that long video interview with Stephenie, and thus are worthy of my undieing loyalty.

Bookmark or Dog-ear?
I don't like to fold the pages, but I hardly every use actual "bookmarks" to mark my place. It's usually marked with whatever random object is close by when I stop. Hairbands, remotes, receipts, pricetags, Sudoku etc.

Favorite Science Fiction Author?
Madeleine L'Engle is the first that comes to mind. I liked Scott Westerfield's Uglies trilogy, and I suppose Diana Gabaldon and Jasper Fforde could be somewhat considered science fiction authors- both involve time travel. I'm looking forward to Stephenie Meyer's Scifi.

Alphabetize by Author, Alphabetize by Title, or Random?
I suppose it would appear random. The ones I reread from frequently are grouped together and the others are arranged with the series they are in. Keep,

Throw Away or Sell?
People throw books away? Why? Keep, definitely. Or traded in to a second-hand book store if you must.

Keep dustjacket or toss it?
Keep.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
Depends. I usually keep them on and use the sides to mark the page, but with the last Harry Potter I didn't want to mess up the lovely cover art and took it off.

Short Story or Novel?
Novel.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Harry Potter though I've nothing against Lemony Snicket- he's hilarious. (Shouldn't it be JK Rowling or Lemony Snicket?)

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
Wherever I am when something else demands my attention.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time?”
Umm... how about "The night was sultry...." haha.

Buy or Borrow?
Both. If I borrow it and love it, I'll buy it.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?
Browse and recommendations- recommendations mostly.

Lewis or Tolkien?
I'm not well-versed in either, but Tolkien because I enjoyed The Hobbit.

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?
Hmmm. Collection, I suppose. I'm not big on short stories generally.

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?
Depends on how it's executed, tidy ending generally, but cliffhangers can be delightfully frustrating.

Favorite book that no one else has heard of?
Umm... The Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier(I haven't read this in a long time) and The Thursday Next by Jasper Fforde- I know people have heard of both of these but I can't seem to think of anything obscure at the moment. Though Looking for Alaska, Twilight and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone were all relatively unknown when I first read them.

Currently Reading?
A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon which is as I expected, amazing. I'm currently on page 388(of 979). I know basically how it ends, but I don't know how it comes about. I don't want to finish because then I will be stuck with everyone else anxiously awaiting 2009 and An Echo in the Bone.
