So I've been seeing that fanfic tropes meme around and after asking the rules (Apparently, there are none), so here it's mine.
Genderswap: I love it as long as it's not the always-a-girl variety, which is not my favorite. I preffer the I-turn-into-a-girl variety, which when it's when written, can be hilarious and well, I think it says much that the first popslash fic I read (And what made me fall in love with the Choey) was Helen's The Same Inside. Although lately I would love if the obligatory scene of clothes shopping would be cut short. It's much better if we go into the problems that being a girl can cause to our gender bended character. And yes, I've writen it. One of the Wips I'm planning on finishing this year is exactly a genderswap fic I'm writing with
milosflaca Bodyswap: I've written it too, although I think it's very hard to get right. Actually, I don't think I've read one that really stands out. I think that well written can be a great idea, but it's not something I would go looking for either.
Drunk!fic: Oh, I hate them. The idea that we need alcohol for the guys to get together is tired, cliché, and full of unfortunate implications. Or maybe just the ones I read have that. Still, not my cup of tea.
Huddling together for warmth: I find that this particular trope is *very* hard to do in any original way because it's been done so much already. Honestly, how many ways of getting your characters in a freezing situation can you find without doing a "The day after tomorrow" crossover?
Undercover in a gay bar: Back when I read Due South fic, I sort of liked this ones. Because in the fandom, they made sense and with Benton's absolute honesty, it was never really 'undercover', and we never got any embarrasing parts. In any other fandom though, I'm not sure it would really work.
Pretending to be married: There's a reason why I hate "I now pronounce you Chuck & Larry" and "The Green Card". Although I can stand "The Green Card" a bit more. Unless the characters are *already* in a relationship and the only thing missing is the actual wedding and they're doing it to keep the parents happy or something, it's not my cup of tea at all.
Secretly a virgin: Doesn't sound interesting at all.
Amnesia: I like the posibilites, and my favorite Due South episode was set around the subject of amnesia, but I'm not sure if it would work in, say, popslash or a more reality-based fandom (Although I read an amnesia!Kevin/Chris fic once that totally broke my heart)
Cross-dressing: Depending on who is doing the cross-dressing, it can be a lot of fun. (Even if Chris and Joey made the ugliest girls ever in that one video)
Forced to share a bed: I used to read this kind of fics back in Buffy where Xander had this trope set on him every other fic. And I still don't get what is so great about it, since, again, it's just one step away from non-con, which ewww. Otoh, in popslash, we have pictures of the BSB in the same bed, completely asleep, and we know the guys shared a bus for who knows how long, so it's a moot point.
Aliens made them do it: Depends on the aliens and on the writer. Especially on the writer.
Wingfic: I've read some heartbreaking wingfics, I've written two, and I can see the appeal. But I don't get when it's just a random "And they have wings"
Mpreg: Just not something I look for. In fact, I only read mpreg fic when it comes up in MtYG. I don't like Mpreg, don't understand the appeal , and rather not have to read it. (Although I stand about what I said about the two mpregs this past mtyg, for a trope I usually hate, they were very good)
Mistakenly assumed to be gay: Ugh, no. I've got more than enough of that in tv and movies, I don't want it on my fics. I rather read "Mistakenly assumed to be straight" in any case (And yes, that's one I'm guitly of overusing)
Let's play truth or dare: Too overused. And since most of my fandoms are around grown men, it becomes silly.
Mary Sue fic: Only in parody. And even then, depends on the writer.
Aphrodisiacs: Can be interesting, I guess. Can't remember reading a fic about that but I guess it can be interesting.
Curtain fic: Everyone mentions that this is domestic fic, and I love a good domestic fic. Even when I like first times and fics where the guys are just getting together, but a bit of domesticity can be good now and then.
Hurt/Comfort: Varies a lot, and it depends on the writer. Some can do it so wonderfully that I like to feel terrible for the guy and then happy relieved that things worked out, but in general, I rather skip the hurt part...
Apocalypse fic: Hell yes! *ahem*. Especially if it involves zombies. I like it if all my guys survive, but I can also take some deaths when necesary. I love a good apocalypse :)
Someone has a baby: No thanks. I can deal with something that comes as a second plot, but not as the main point of the fic.
Baby!fic: See above.
Telepathic soulbonding: Buffy and Star Wars made me allergic to this trope. I think it can get really creepy, really fast.
Werewolves mate for life: I love werewolves, but the cliché of mating for life is so overused, I sort of hate it.
And that's about it :)
