So the reveal passed us :) I can't even say how exited I was this year's Sesa :)
So now I know that
bossymarmalade wrote me the incredibly funny
This is where the Party's At that has a nice place in my favorites forever because Pennywise!Lance is the funniest, creepiest thing I can ever imagine and come on! It's Lance as the creepiest clown in the history of clowns! And yes, I'm over using 'creep' as a word, but it's because I still get so exited over the story :)
On the other hand, I returned to my usual pinch hitting ways and wrote two stories this year (I was going to grab a third, but now I know that
nopseud was quickier than me in the uptake ;) )
So, this year my stories were
Demon for... well,
bossymarmalade which makes the greatest coinicidence in the story of ever (Seriously, has this ever happened with a story that wasn't grabbed as a pinch hit? I can't remember if it has), and
The Defense Rests for
ullman79 as a pinch hit that has a very funny story behind...
Ok, so first things firsts. This year, around September, I somehow managed to sing myself up to a lot of writing challenges. Besides MtYG, I also signed up for the St. Seiya Sesa (Where I wrote a story called Recipe), and Nano. And then, showing a great deal of bad organization skills, I decided to not start one until I had finished the other. So Nano was, of course, all November, although I had done some little advance in the St. Seiya story and long story short I got to December 1st with just the first sentence of Demon written up.
Yep, my personal vice of leaving things until the last minute is still going strong. Also, I had a convention a little bit before deadline, AND my brother's wedding, AND work issues so... yeah. It was a bit panicky. Even worse, I don't know if you guys have noticed, I'm not good at Justin/Chris. There's a reason why I skipped most of the Justin/Chris universe in Timberlake Effect, and it is the simple reason that I'm not good with the pairing. But
bossymarmalade wanted Timbertrick, and I was adamant on giving her the best Timbertrick I could write.
I do have a tendency of checking my recipents lj profiles, so there I learned that she liked Hellblazer, one of my favorite comics. And suddenly, the image of the first scene came to my mind, even before I started Nano. Chris, running the stairs behind JC, and saying "I'm not a priest!" just because the Constantine movie starts with an exorcism and the idea of Chris trying to do an exorcism Constantine-style was a fun idea. Besides, she likes crossovers, just not with fandoms she didn't like, so I figured I could do an *N Sync/Jhon Constantine crossover.
Until I got to the actual demon, where the words "I'll swallow your soul" came out even before I could think of anything else and Bam! There I had the Army of Darkness crossover, and Ash, in typical Ash's fashion, refused to give up the limelight until it was time for the sparklyboys to shine. After that, the rest of the story pretty much wrote itself with one little difference from the final posted fic, that I'll go into in a while.
(The other two cameos, Agatha and Subaru, were going to have bigger roles. But Chris and JC reveled against that, because it was a story about *them* not the secondary characters, and honestly? They were right. But I liked sending them to Haven and that was enough :))
So while I was writing that, I had to pass two of the pinch hits because as
milosflaca said I had to finish one story before I signed up to do another. Still, there had been that one Chris/Kevin prompt that was beging to be written and that I hated to see going away.
Fast forward to December 23, around 4:00 a.m. when my blackberry beeps in the annoying 'you've got mail' beep. Since I was having a bit of insomina, I woke up and checked out what was going on. Lucky everyone, it was the exact same pinch hit prompt I had passed on, and since it was only 12 hours to go, I said 'Sure, I'll do it. I just need a beta' (Here,
nopseud wins at life because she offered right away. Even if she was going to be getting the story in snippets as I kept writing.
With a clear idea of a plot (I've been living on Law and Order and Raising the Bar reruns), I just went to sleep ready to start in the morning.
Unlike Demon, I have to say that The Defense Rest practically wrote itself. Once I had the clear image of Chris as a public defense lawyer (And yes, I did took that a bit out of Raising the Bar, but that's because I could picture Chris in Mark Paul Gosslar's role *easy*, and hey, Chris with long hair? Who am I to say no to that?) and Kevin as a DA (I pretty much casted him as Casey in Law and Order. Or maybe Rubirosa), the rest of the guys came easily. I had an idea of making their roles a bit more diverse originally, Nick and AJ were going to be policemen, and JC was going to reprise his role as a forensic expert, and so on... but then I realized that that would make the story too long and too complicated, not to mention it would take the focus out of the guys. So, with a little prompting from
milosflaca who usually is teh one who brings me back to earth when I start plotting things that will get out of control, I re-cast everyone, leaving the *N Syncers as the public defendants and the Boys as the DA's councelors. Howie, being Chris's friend and all that, got to get away and become a judge aide. Because I can totally picture Howie as a DA.
It was there where time-constrains hit, because originally I was going to have Kevin talk with every *N Syncer individually, and the guys, at the same time, tlak to Chris out of worry for both him and Kevin, but time had to cut that to only Joey's scene in the park. Which makes me really want to do a sequel, because I feel I left a lot unsaid.
Even so, I managed to finish before haivng my family dinner,
nopseud finished betaing before midnight and with two hours to spare, we managed to get that story on the site just in time.
And that was about all my adventure this year. Honestly? I *can't* wait for next year for the sesa panic to start again!
ETA: I knew I forgot something! The difference between my original Demon and the one that got posted? Well, around 9:00 a.m. of the 23,
nopseud contacted me to remind me that MtYG should be happy for the most part and even if one could get away with killing a secondary character, killing one of the Sparklyboys was a no-no. And as you can guess from that paragraph, yes, I had killed Lance. Originally, he wasn't possessed but part of a cult, and had to be put down. But to be honest, I like the new version better. Makes more sense with the Candarian Demon's M.O.
