i chose risd not neccessarily for fashion, although fashion is something i've always known i've wanted to do. i chose it because it was an all-around great design school (#1 in america) and would give me an opportunity to be in a more collegiate environment while studying design ... socially, it's much better than parsons or FIT! consequently, i've made some great friends in other majors as well as my own, of course ... a nice network of people, which will probably be very good for my career later on. but regarding the actual fashion education, i think that it is quite good mostly because they're so thorough about teaching us clothing construction, and push us in that way, which i think is so important. most other american fashion schools have their students contract their work out, which i think is a bad idea: it makes a designer less aware of the possibilities and thus less creative in their designs, unless they were blessed with a fantastic imagination. there are a few qualms i have about certain things within the curriculum, but ( ... )

yeah, i never really heard about RISD until after i entered college, met someone that did a summer program there, she told me it was sorta art Ive League.
yeah, i can see why Parsons and FIT get all the attention, considering they're budding elbows with the industry.
Oh when i went to school in FIT, they made us make all our stuff, which was terrible! In St. Martins its quite interesting because we have seamstress and tailors , so they can sew stuff up for us if we wish, and we also have to option of getting all our stuff done outside of college for our final collection and on top of that we get assigned the first and second years to help us as well! I think thats really St. Martins little secret, professional looking stuff because we didnt do it ourselve...haha
