TV Shows Potential Continued - New Shows

With my long list of Old Shows done, I thought a bit of a few of the shows I hadn't included but that I still love and believe have potential. Essentially, New Shows.

Old Shows: http://luvspnl.livejournal.com/84481.html

NEW SHOWS

By New Shows, I mean shows that started a year or so ago, or that I’ve recently started following. Again, I try to avoid spoiling things beyond first seasons, but I know a few things have slipped. I recommed all shows listed here!
Almighty Johnsons

Almighty Johnsons is a New Zealand show made of awesome! (Like Outrageous Fortune, I have to watch this online, because I unfortunately don’t live in Australia or New Zealand, where this airs.) It’s about a group of brothers, the Johnsons. The day of Axl’s 21st birthday, he not only discovers that his supposed cousin is actually his grandfather, but that the Johnsons are all actually Norse Gods.

The Johnsons, Mike, Anders, Ty, Axl, and grandpa Olaf are the Norse Gods Ullr(god of Games and Hunting), Bragi (god of words and poetry), Hodh (god of all things cold), Odin (father of the Gods), and Baldr (god of long life and rebirth, family oracle). There are also female Goddesses, Michele/Sjofn (goddess of love), Stacey/Fulla (Frigg’s handmaiden), Ingrid/Snotra (goddess of prudence and wisdom, oracle to the goddess), and Agnetha/Freyja (goddess of fertility and prosperity). There are also other gods/goddesses: Colin Gundersen/Loki (god of fire and trickery), his daughter Eva/Hel (goddess of the underworld), and Helen/Iounn (goddess of   The mortals of the show are Zeb, Axl’s flatmate and best friend, and the only one who knows that he’s a god. Zeb calls himself Freki (Odin’s trusty wolf companion) and tries to get himself involved in the ‘God business’, except Mike really doesn’t like him around it. Then there’s Valerie, Mike’s wife who helped Mike raise his brothers. They’ve been trying for ages to get pregnant, seeking out invitro treatments (which leads to Axl fearing that she’s doping up). Then there’s Gaia, Axl’s other flatmate who has a crush on him, but he is so completely unawares. Lastly, there’s Dawn, Anders secretary who Ty has a crush on. She practically runs Johnson PR, Anders company, and can’t seem to quit (because Anders keeps ‘convincing’ her to stay). They gods/goddesses aren’t at their full powers until Odin can find his Frigg. However, if Odin dies, all of his family days and a huge catastrophe happens in the area around them (like an earthquake), killing many mortals along with them. The Johnsons want their full powers (particularly Anders), but the goddesses are intent on preventing this, since they feel more at power on earth than they ever were in Asgard. Gods and Goddesses do not get along.

Potential here is since Mike turned 21, he’s been in charge of his younger brothers. Their father died at sea, but there mother stayed until Mike turned 21, to tell him about being a god, and then left to become a tree)(which brings about one of Anders best lines “Our mother the tree”). Anders would have been fourteen when Mike was 21, and Anders tends to really irate his brothers, but Mike in particular. Mike (Mikel) is the responsible brother, not even using his powers unless absolutely necessary. Anders is the irresponsible, arrogant brother whose voice has the power of manipulation. Anders does care for his brothers, but he goes out of his way to protect his own interest first. Then there’s Ty, sweet and sensible Ty, who hasn’t felt warmth or the taste of food since his own 21st. Ty was 9 when Mike turned 21, and remembers how his parents would fight. He stuck up for his mother, who gave him a necklace that would ‘protect him’ when he was little. Ty (Tyrone) runs a refrigerator repair business, and makes ice sculptures in a cold room, since he can’t feel the freezing temperatures (even though his brothers are shivering and in coats). Ty keeps in shape, wears mostly black, and is the most likely to help out his brothers or Olaf. Lastly, Axl, who was 6 when Mike turned 21, was told that their mother died in a car crash. He tries to take the whole ‘God business’ in stride, but mostly he’s completely clueless. When in doubt, he turns to Mike or Olaf, or even Ty and Anders. As the youngest, it is Axl’s duty to guard the family sword (it was Ty’s until Axl’s 21st) but he tends to play with it, leading Mike especially to keep thinking of him as a kid. Most potential is in the years leading up to the show. Especially thinking of after Anders turned 21, but Ty and Axl still didn’t know about their heritage, he could have talked them into so many things!
Alphas

I know nothing about this show, but with a name like Alphas, I’m thinking there has to be potential. I’m pretty sure this isn’t about werewolves.
Blue Bloods

The Reagans from Blue Bloods are a family largely forming from policemen. The Reagans are headed by Francis “Frank” Reagan, the police commissioner for the New York Police Department. Frank and his deceased wife, Mary, (yes another deceased wife named Mary, Winchesters, I’m looking at you!) had four kids Danny, Joe, Erin, and Jamie. Detective Daniel “Danny” Reagan is a NYPD detective, investigating major crimes (from the looks of it, if they stated specifically where he works, I can’t recall). He is married to Linda, with whom he has two kids: Jack, 10, and Sean, 7 (I think). Joseph Connor Reagan was a detective as well, but he was killed off before the series began, which inspired his little brother to become a cop. Erin Reagan-Boyle is a district attorney for the state of New York. She persecutes a lot of the criminals Danny puts away. Erin is divorced and has a fourteen year old daughter, Nicki, who often stays over at Frank’s. Lastly, there is Jamison ‘Jamie’ Reagan, the youngest of the Reagan brood and a rookie NYPD, Harvard Law graduate. Jamie is following in the big Reagan footsteps of his brothers, father, and grandfather before him, so he has a lot of pressure as a rookie, since everyone associates his name to one of the aforementioned men. The last of the Reagans is Grandpa Reagan, Henry Reagan, Frank’s father who lives in Frank’s house. Henry’s wife, Betty I believe, has also passed away.

The potential with the Reagans is any found within families. There’s the growing up, the kids, and I believe there’s a pretty large gap between Erin and Jamie, so I personally believe that the older siblings played a large role in helping raise him.
Falling Skies

A new gem, Falling Skies, is amazing. It starts off about six months after an alien invasion. The 2nd Mass is a militia group of civilians and military, fleeing from Boston and the aliens. Tom Mason is the main character. He is second in command (SIC) of the 2nd Mass, but he was a former Boston U professor of history. He is constantly telling the history of where they are, or how what they are doing relates back to something in the past. He provides hope and understanding for the civilians, and to his kids. Tom has three sons, Hal, Ben, and Matt. His wife, Rebecca, was a doctor and was killed trying to get supplies. Hal is 16 and a scouter for the group. He rides a motorcycle and goes ahead to see if there are any aliens around. Ben is 14 and missing, taken by the aliens and placed under mental slavery, controlled through a bio-organic harness. When Ben is found, the task of removing the harness has been known to kill the kids. Matt is a recent 10. He misses the ‘before’ more than anything. His father and brother tries to shield him from their present realities, but Matt is a smart kid. He wants to do more, fight like his family, but he’s still very little.

Oh potential would spoil the show here! But I will say, pre-series Masons. Hal mentions in one episode (first?) that Tom was much more strict before, and now he’s letting his teenage son go off on motorcycles and shot aliens when he wasn’t even allowed down the block after dark. (Did he know about the supernatural too? I always wonder with shows, possible SPNL crossover even before alien invasion? WWDWD in an alien invasion?)
Lab Rats

Lab Rats is a new Disney show about how Leo Dooley has a new step dad in Donald Davenport, who is a billionaire. Davenport also has three super-powered teenagers living in his underground secret lab. Leo lives with Davenport and his mom, Tasha. Adam Davenport is 17, his bionics are super strength and laser eyes. Adam is not very bright, but he is funny and tall and friendly. Bree Davenport is 16, her bionics are super speed and agility. Bree talks fast when she is excited and wants more than anything to be a normal girl, which is hard when she shares her space with her two bionic (and moronic, if you ask her) brothers. Chase Davenport is 15, his bionics are super intelligence, super senses, and leadership. He has the ability to control his siblings bionics too, as his brain is essentially a computer. Leo is 14 and normal. He is awkward and funny and wants the bionic trio to be his friends. They consider each other family, but Leo often takes advantage of their bionics, though they’re not allowed to use them outside of training and missions. Tasha Davenport is a TV reporter. She tries to help the kids as a mother, and enjoys having a ‘girlfriend’ in Bree. Tasha is not a very good reporter. Lastly, there’s Donald, who the kids call Davenport, and who Leo calls “Big D”. Donald is 38, and a billionaire. He is incredibly smart, invents many things, and has a childlike enthusiasm for things. (Any QAF viewers? It’s Mikey! J ) His house is run by Eddy, which is a smart system for the house, and Davenport’s best friend, who hates Tasha and the kids. He is only loyal to Davenport, thinking nothing about locking the kids in the basement, for instance.

Potential is a bit off. The show is mostly for humor, but I think with two responsible parents and four teens, there’s potential. Of course, Adam is super strong, Bree is super-fast, and Chase is super smart, it might just be Leo who wouldn’t be able to get himself out of punishments. Though, maybe Chase isn’t smarter than Davenport himself? It might not be wise for him to say as much, anyhow.
Magic City

I admit, I started watching this only for Jeffrey Dean Morgan. What can I say,  I miss you Daddy John Winchester!!  The new Starz series Magic City is a time piece, back to 1959, Miami, Florida. Ike Evans built and runs the Miramar Plaza. He has three kids and a new wife, his old wife died, and she was the love of his life (maybe named Mary?) and his new wife, Vera, is living in her shadows. Ike’s sons are Stevie and Danny, with a little girl of thirteen named Lauren. Stevie is in his mid 20s, helps his dad with running the Miramar. Stevie is a bartender in Atlantis, the under-pool bar place where a lot of the scheming deals are talked over. Stevie is also a complete idiot for woman, especially going after Lily Diamond, mob boss Den Diamond’s latest wife. Danny is 21?, and fresh out of law school. The district attorney thinks that Danny would be a way in for them to get Ike behind bars. They really hate Ike, but Danny doesn’t really know about anything that Ike and Stevie do, they keep that stuff from him, Vera, and Lauren (who doesn’t show up a lot in the series actually). Danny also has a big time crush on Mercedes, who is a childhood friend and currently a maid at the Miramar. Her father, Victor, is Ike’s best friend. They each raised their kids single father style, though Mercedes mom is stuck in a Castro infested Cuba. Neither father would approve. Lastly, Lauren is a bossy little girl, turning thirteen. She has everything she could want because Ike spoils his kids, but she is pretty rude, especially to Vera. Vera was a dancer that Ike saw dancing a few years back, and fell in love with her. She is trying to be the kind of wife that can get Jackie Kennedy over for a tea party, but is coming up short. She is stunningly beautiful, and gets hit on sometimes, much to Ike’s displeasure.

Potential here, well I want to kick Stevie’s ass most of the time, and I think if Ike had even half a clue as to what his son was doing, he would agree. Instead, Ike seems to think Stevie can think for himself and lets him just be, but he’s all on Danny’s case about things, like getting with the DA. Also, that Lauren girl, kind of annoying, I’m just saying. Season 2, that girl better have calmed down! Only time she wasn’t snapping at Vera or Ike was during a funeral. And Danny with Mercedes, Ike would not approve. Your kid with your best friend’s kid? Some people might like it, Ike and Victor? Not so happy. (Also, I tend to think of Magic City as, JW died and woke up in 1959, named Ike. He still has a devoted older son Dean/Stevie and a younger kid that wants away with what the family business is Sammy/Danny. Bonus Lauren just to keep you on your toes!) Still, it’s a pretty neat show. There’s lots of other stuff going on, I’m just listing out the family.
Shameless

Meet the Gallaghers! The US or UK renditions of Shameless are phenomenal. They are a large family, held together by oldest daughter, Fiona. Fiona has to raise her younger siblings since her parents are both negligent and self-serving. When Mommy and Daddy dearest are around, they’re likely combing for the family money stash, regardless of whether that money was to pay the monthly bills, food, or some necessity of the kids.

UK version and the original is on its 10th series. The focus on that show is now the Maguire family, since the Gallagher kids have moved on and away. The US version has the Gallaghers at the very start again, and they will soon have the 3rd season up. (Very soon I hope!)

The Gallaghers are Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl, and Liam. Their father is Frank, mother is Monica, and their ‘family’ are neighbors Kev and Veronica. Fiona’s boyfriend is ‘Steve’. Fiona is 2, she enjoyed running in high school, but had to drop out of high school. She is the responsible one in the family, because her parents are completely incompetent. It is mostly stated, that even when Monica was living at home, she wasn’t really helpful. Monica and Frank did lots of drugs together, which didn’t help Monica’s bipolar state. Frank is also always drunk. He cares for his kids, but he would probably shove one of them out of the way to get to his beer. Sober, he is an amazing father, caring and respectable almost, but it’s only a matter of time before he drinks again. Always. Fiona likes dancing, and that’s how she met Steve, who has been watching her at the club for weeks. Philip ‘Lip’, is 17 and wicked smart. He uses his brain mostly for cons, but he does also tutor students, and take the SATs for them. He is a straight-A student, but he is often irresponsible. He smokes and drinks and uses marijuana and has a lot of sex for fun. Ian is 16 and works at the local grocery corner market after school. In the US version, Ian is in Army ROTC. Ian is also gay, but only a few people (Fiona, Lip, Monica, Frank, Kash, Mandy, and Mickey) know. Kash is Ian’s kind-of boss, in that Kash’s mother owns the store, and his wife manages it, but it’s Kash that stands behind the counter all day long. Mandy likes Ian, and tries to make out with him, but he’s not interested, making her tell her brothers that he come onto her. However, Ian tells Mandy the truth, they pretend to be boyfriend/girlfriend, and become really great friends instead. Mickey is one of Mandy’s brothers, ‘not gay’ but he’s secretly with Ian, as long as Ian stops trying to make a thing about it. Kash and Frank both catch them, which both has dire consequences for Mickey. Debbie is the middle child, 11, and tries so hard to be a Daddy’s girl. She loves her family deeply, and their friends, that she would do anything for them. She is extra caring of Liam, shares a room with him, and needs to be needed. She is a bright young girl, but like the rest of the Gallaghers, her smarts are used to get money and escape the cops. Debbie is observant and the first suspicious of ‘Steve’. Carl is the biggest trouble maker of the Gallaghers. At 9, he is more often than not in trouble in school, fighting, trying to get his hands on weapons, killing stray animals, melting toys. Carl is deeply disturbed and loving it. In the US version ends up playing football, Steve coaching. Lastly, little Liam, who is about 2. US version Liam is black, but his biological parents are Monica and Frank Gallagher, both white. Something down the Gallagher line makes you scratch your head.  The Gallagher brood is rounded off by Kevin ‘Kev’ Ball, neighbor and bar manager at the Alibi Room. Kev lives with Veronica, who he deeply loves, and grew up in foster care. In US version, Kev is dyslexic and learning to read (not cheating on V, like she thought). Veronica is Fiona’s best friend and neighbor. US Version, V is black. She works at an old people’s home and is generally really good people. V got fired from the hospital for stealing med supplies. V helps the Gallaghers out however she can. Kev and V take in a foster child. Kev wants to help a kid, V does it for the pay check. US version foster child is Ester. There is also Steve, Fiona’s boyfriend who loves her crazy family and life. She’s weary of Steve, but he is completely in love with her. He doesn’t mind her family, but wants her to want things for herself. Then there’s Sheila Jackson, she is Karen’s mother and Frank’s girlfriend. Sheila has agoraphobia, and can’t leave her house, so she has no idea Frank is an unreliable drunk, since he’s a really nice guy to her. Karen sucks. Lip loves her but she just sucks. That is literally all you have to know about her. Everything she does just ruins life for others around her and the best thing about her is that she left at the end of the 2nd season. I hope she doesn’t come back.

Potential here is either Fiona or Steve and the rest of the Gallagher kids. Steve is essentially normal, and he see a lot of the bad that the group thinks of as normal. Fiona is juggling a lot on her hands, but she is fierce and would kill her siblings for doing too stupid shit. I think all of the Gallagher kids could use a kick in the pants, hopefully before they turn up like the UK version ones, where Lip fathers a kid and every season almost one of the Gallaghers leaves. (And Liam becomes an atheist?) Serioulsy, Fiona and Steve need to join forces, and they could maybe raise somewhat stable kids.
Suits

Suits is a sophomore show on USANetwork  that is made of ultimate awesome. Its main are Michael ‘Mike’ Ross and Harvey Reginald Specter. (It’s the Reginald that makes me laugh. Reginald.*smirk*) Harvey is a Senior Partner in the law firm of PearsonHardman, with the amazing Donna Paulsen as his assistant extraordinaire and a new junior associate in Mike Ross. Mike, however, is not a lawyer. However, only Donna and Harvey are aware of this huge big time lie. PearsonHardman is an exclusively Harvard grads only firm. Mike is however impulsive and willing to please. He wants to do good by everyone, including the clients. He does pro bono on his ‘free time’. Mike’s ace is that he has epidemic memory, meaning he can recall everything he has ever read. (He can still, however, forget where he left his keys and cell phone. Apparently, ‘It’s not the same thing.’) Then there’s Louis Litt, a Junior Partner and in charge of all of the junior associates. He is essentially also in charge of Mike, though Mike answers to Harvey. Louis is a bit skeevy, but he’s a damn good lawyer. There is also Jessica Pearson (of PearsonHardman), who was Harvey’s mentor and friend. Lastly, there’s Rachel, a paralegal with the wits of a lawyer, but she can’t get through the bar exam to be one. She has a liking for Mike, who likes her back, but also likes Jenny. (Jenny is Trevor-Mike’s bad influence, best friend-girlfriend.)

Potential, is that Mike really seems to live with his head in the clouds. He is a little go-getter puppy, but the key word is puppy. He is easy to excite, and difficult to train. But fun to cuddle? Harvey takes to Mike in much of a brotherly manner, but their positions also kind of put him in a fatherly/mentor role for Mike, who is constantly thinking that his smarts are superior to Harvey’s experience (and his own equal smarts). Mike is, of course, wrong. There’s also Grammy, Mike’s dad’s mom, who raised Mike after his parent’s deaths in a car accident. She is ill in the nursing home and it takes a lot of money to keep her there. Grammy is a spitfire of an old gal.

And now, I want to hear about the Potential Shows, the new seasons are soon starting, what is everyone going to be watching? What reminds you of some show you've seen? What has the potential to lead to future, spanky fics? I want to know!!
