I just HAVE to post this after posting "Buying 65s...".
Yesterday, I braved the snow and went into a Vinyl Record specialist. The reason was a bit complicated - I'd been awake all night, turned on the radio and discovered an old acquaintance has now become a broadcaster for 3 Counties Radio. And he managed to get one of the few remaining record shops around here to talk. This led me to finally pop in to the store that afternoon, after years of mild embarrassment about actually wanting to SELL more records than I actually want to buy. Andy, of the record store, was still slightly groggy as he wasn't used to being on the radio at 8AM - apparently he got the phone call from 3CR and found himself on air with Mik Scarlet (the old acquaintance with the new early breakfast show) 10 seconds later. I spent a pleasant hour there talking about old records, and came away with a leaflet or two to remind me that Andy is willing to come and buy a lot of mine. He still wasn't so groggy that he didn't manage to take money off me - I literally left with no bank-notes that I'd gone in with. So I now have a good copy of the Jim Steinman 33rpm LP "Bad for Good" that got bent into inplayability after the last move - I wish I'd kept the cover as I could have restored that over the slightly shoddy "new" one. A 12" 45rpm single by Marillion with a great cover including the kid that grew up about three miles from where I spent my teenage years. A John Cooper Clarke orange-coloured-vinyl strange-shaped 45rpm disc (if you can call it a disc when it's actually a triangle with curved sides that make it roll perfectly - what's the adjective for such shapes?) and Meat Loaf's second LP, which looks untitled but is usually called "Deadringer for Love". Strangely, the Jim Steinman LP would actually have been Meat Loaf's THIRD album but they fell out for a bit. Some of the tracks were redone by other artists like Bonnie Tyler, so Jim didn't lose out I think.
I know far too much about vinyl, don't I?
