Computer Issues from Hell and Why I think people are crazy not to like touchpads

First off my computer had a crash last friday night. I get home from my interview in Ann Arbor, go to check my email and the computer starts up as normal. Then maybe 10 minutes later I get a blue screen telling me I need to restart the computer. No biggie, I've had those appear a couple of times, I restart and all is well. Well not this time! This time my computer reaches the boot screen, freaks out, and won't boot up. All I get is a black screen. It's awful, I couldn't even boot up in safe mode.

So I take it to B & K Computer in Otsego to get it fixed. The guy looks at it, tells me that he can't even get into it. Thinks something got deleted out of it from the registry when I removed a virus that was on my computer the weekend before. So he wants to reinstall windows. And of course Dell being the geniuses they are NOT decided to be cheap and not send backup discs of all the software when they sold me the laptop. So he backs up all my info onto my external hard drive and reinstalls windows. Well I dunno why but after he reinstalled it all my files were still there. This makes me happy and so I picked it up yesterday and had it in the car with me when I went to see Twilight with Lindsay.

When I got home last night I was really tired but I thought, ok I'll turn it on and make sure it's all working ok. And of course it wasn't. I mean... it booted up fine. And all my info still appears to be on the computer. But all the Dell installed drivers and software are gone. Which blows. Because it meant that the intel driver for my wireless card had also been lost, and I couldn't get online. So this morning I had to use the desktop (which I hate! Stupid keyboard on a stupid rolling shelf) to get on Dell's website and see if they had all the drivers. I had to download like 22 drivers, but after about 19 of them I finally found the one that would control the internet and thus I am online again.

But of course all my programs are f***ed up, lots of programs are missing, the scroll option on my touchpad doesn't work now, my internet explorer is back to version 6 so I have no tabs option, etc. And I gotta reinstall that, and a bunch of crap isn't going to work until I restart my computer. Which I am afraid to do after the LAST time I restarted it. Lol. Oh! And I found out that I can get back up copies for my stuff ONE TIME ONLY from Dell so I sent off for those, but they won't arrive for a week and I've no idea what all will be included in them.

So wish me luck I guess. Lol. I have no idea what the hell happened to begin with and so have no idea how to prevent it from happening again. Computers are great things, but when they f*** up you are just screwed.

And as a side note, what the heck is up with people not liking touch pads? I love my touchpad! It's much easier for me to switch between keyboard and touchpad then reaching over to where a mouse would be. And I find that using an actual mouse hurts my wrist, and using a touchpad doesn't do anything to me. But all these people hate touchpads! They say they are either too sensitive, not sensitive enough, their fingers hit them when they are typing (I've never had that problem!), they hurt their hands, etc. I wonder if people realize they can adjust touchpad sensitivity? If it's too sensitive, lower it, if it's not sensitive enough, raise it up. I dunno, I just find it a bit bizare I guess, and I don't really understand why people don't like them. Any ideas? Thoughts?
