While I understand that these protests are a safe distance away and therefore fall into the realm of "free speech" (pfft), harassment is also still harassment. Isn't it? If a person can get in beaucoup trouble for harassing someone over the phone then why not when they're, say, across the street? This isn't protesting, either, this is hate-speech.
There's also the matter of damage they cause the families and friends of these people and I don't just mean physical, obv. That makes grief more intense, it upsets already fragile states of mind, it could well lead to suicide or a complete mental breakdown. A parent has a right to bury their child and mourn, not have some ASSHOLE come along and tell them their son or daughter is going to burn in hell forever and deserved to die because they were (thought to be) gay.
They give no thought to that and if they do then I guess they think their parents/friends/relatives/partners (esp. them, I'd guess) deserve everything they get because they "allowed" the (thought to be) dirty homosexual in their lives and encouraged their (presumed) "sinning" (*scoffs*).
Their disconnected fundamentalist ideals (again: *scoffs*) are utter shit. I cannot stress enough the damage these people are probably causing to the families and friends of these dead soldiers. So, no, the Supreme Court can say all it wants to, but they really have no right to be there. How dare these people desecrate a time of mourning with their skewed and yes, delusional, bullshit?
I reiterate: It isn't protesting to me, it's hate-speech of the lowest common form. Who knew hate-speech could sink even lower? Well, thanks to the Christian fundamentalists, we now have a basis for comparison.
Yes, exactly. They're using something that is very private and personal to make a political statement and depriving the families and friends of these people of the closure they need. That's what funerals are about. Especially the funerals of people who go away to war and their families know the entire time they are gone that they may never come home. Their worst fears, the worst thing they can imagine, has just happened to them and instead of being compassionate, or failing that, SILENT, these people are using that for their own fucked up reasons.
The Supreme Court is supposed to be there to lay the smackdown on people and groups like this. They are usually fair and not biased. They are the final word and I've usually agreed with what they say about the law, about 70% of the time at least, but I can't agree with this.
The thing is, if these people can do this to soldiers and their families, who is to stop someone else or some other group from doing this to ANYONE else? For no reason even because there is really no logical reasoning behind this either. This isn't even a homosexual vs. not homosexual issue when really looked at. This isn't about homosexuality, that's just the horn these whackos are tooting.
Also, like you said above, someone is going to get hurt or killed. The person who does it will get into heaps of trouble for it I am sure. Not to mention that is where the words "hate" and "no right" will come up. The metaphorical man or woman who assaults the metaphorical asshat protesting their child's/friend's/etc.'s funeral will only do it because they hate them for speaking the "truth" and they had no right to attack them in such a manner.
Right. Okay.
Funny thing is, if you weren't there it wouldn't even be an issue. You reap what you sow though and if these people aren't reaping discontent and malice then what are they doing? Oh, right, preaching God's sovereign word. Uh-huh. Excuse me while I take a moment to try and swallow that wad of salty nonsense....
Yeah. It didn't work.
People have the right to mourn and grieve in peace and these holy rolling IDIOTS (there is no other word for it) have no business spouting their ignorant crap at them while they're trying to do so. Where does this end? Will they be going door-to-door next? What happens when they do that, huh?
I say invite them in and call them housebreakers, but that's just me.
It needs to stop and that decision needs to be appealed and re-appealed until it is repealed and they make them stop it. That whole sentence sounds remarkably childish, but I stand by it. *goes to play with Legos*
