SOAPS
- Honey I Washed the Kids: *****
I'm a little bit biased when it comes to HIWTK-- it was one of the first Lush soaps I ever purchased and to this day is still my all time favorite. I love the subtle sweet (but CLEAN) smell and the amazing creamy lather. The only pseudo complaint I have about it is that the honeycomb pattern on top of the soap is super cute to LOOK at, but it doesn't do much once you actually want to use the soap-- I've actually started popping mine off because it's just useless wax. Tried to use it to exfoliate before, but it really almost detracts from the creaminess of the soap itself.
- Rockstar: ****
I looove the way Rockstar smells. At first I wasn't too keen on it, but it continues to grow on me even now. I can see how the scent would be completely overbearing to people who aren't into that vanilla-bubblegum-soda-sugar kind of smell though, because I myself wasn't particularly fond of it at first either. It's more potent than a lot of other Lush soaps, so definitely something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to that sort of thing. The lather you get from it is amazing though, and it is definitely one of their more moisturizing soaps! I actually have been cutting off little pieces and sticking them in my dresser drawers like sachets :)
- Porridge: ****
This soap smells edible. I seriously want to eat it. It's extremely moisturizing, and it makes for an awesome exfoliator-- my skin feels AMAZING after I use it. However, it's got several cons: the mess it can cause is annoying, no one wants bits of almonds and oats all over their shower, the visuals are a bit disturbing after a couple uses-- the stuff inside the soap REALLY starts to resemble bug bits :( and it also has a tendency to be a bit abrasive. I use it with a light hand and haven't had issues with it being that rough, but you do have to be a bit careful. Overall, I think it deserves 4 stars despite the cons simply because of the wonders it does for my skin-- it's ten times softer after I use this.
- Sexy Peel: ***
My boyfriend adores this soap-- I like it just fine, but it does have a tendency to get a little abrasive after a few uses, especially if it has hardened. I feel that the lather isn't quite as good as some of the other soaps I've used too.. but the smell is amazing! VERY citrus-y, to the point where it'll make other soaps around it smell that way too.
- Sultana of Soap: **
I wanted to love this soap, I really did-- but I didn't think it was all that special :(... It has a very very mild smell, almost too mild to pick up on. The one I got did not lather very well but I believe it was because I stored it wrong and didn't let it cure for a couple of days before using it. I know this isn't the case for most other people, so it's definitely worth a try, I just think that Lush has far more interesting soaps than this one.
- Ice Blue: ***
So I'm not a mint person, I'm definitely more into clean/fruity/foody scents, but this soap is just too unique to pass up. If you have sinus problems at all (I sure do) it's awesome to cut off a piece and just kind of sniff it-- seriously feels like you're breathing in cold air. It's just a super refreshing experience :)
- The Godmother: *
Smelled like cough syrup to me, did not lather at all-- in fact, felt almost rubbery. :( For some weird reason, the boyfriend likes it though... hahaha.
SHOWER GELS
- Snow Fairy Shower Gel: ***
When I smelled this in the store, I thought it was AMAZING. I brought it home, used it in the shower, and was immediately less impressed. Then I used it again, and felt a little sick-- that gross cough syrup like smell was overwhelming :(! I have to be in the right mood to use this one in the shower. HOWEVER, I started using it as a bubble bath and it's perfectly fine that way! I put in about 5-6 full pumps while the water is running and I get a good 3-4 inches of bubbles :) Doesn't do any cool things but it might work out in some cocktails.
BUBBLE BARS
- The Comforter: *****
This bubble bar is SO versatile-- probably my favorite one at Lush :) First of all, it's HUGE. You could EASILY get 4 VERY bubbly baths out of it-- if not more. It smells amazingly fruity-berry like, and it works in so many different cocktails. I can't say enough good things about it :) If I were to get one bubble bar from Lush, it'd be this one.
- Ma Bar: ***
When I first got this bubble bar, it really kind of just smelled like the rest of the store. I put it in a ziplock bag and left it alone for a few days, at which point it REALLY started to smell how it was supposed to-- like chocolatey, caramel-y, sugary goodness. I actually think the scent is almost TOO strong now.. if you're not into foody smells like this, stay away. Farrrr away. I however, love it-- and I don't know if it's just the overall milkiness of it but it seems more moisturizing than a lot of other bubble bars.
- Creamy Candy: ***
I love love love how this one smells. I just want to cocktail Think Pink, Creamy Candy, and bathe with Rockstar... haha-- but I must say, if you're looking for a lot of bubbles, this is not the right one for you. Creamy Candy contains chunks of bath melt like stuff that doesn't make for huge bubbles, but DEFINITELY makes the water super moisturizing and awesome.
- Sunnyside: ****
I was hesitant to try this one because I didn't want to deal with getting glitter all over everything, I mean, you can't even pick up a bar in the store to inspect it without getting your hands completely covered in sparkles! I braved it though, and when I brought it home, I immediately broke it into quarters to use in cocktails. When I broke it up, I could see that the inside was just opaque, no glitter like the outside... so I was kind of disappointed. I decided to use a 4th of it in a bath that night, and was even MORE disappointed when I found that it didn't really smell very strongly of anything-- even though it claims to be a citrus scent (granted I was only using a 4th) and the water didn't change color at all! What were people TALKING about calling this "liquid gold"?? I sighed, and got in the bath anyway. When some of the bubbles cleared away, I looked more closely at the water and noticed that there were beautiful swirls of gold shimmer floating around-- SUPER subtle, but sooo awesome! Not obnoxious chunky glitter, but light shimmer. I was sold-- it's definitely a favorite of mine now, especially after cocktailing it with Big Blue... the mermaid bath is amazinggggg!
- Candy Cane (Holiday): **
This bubble bar smelled a lot like rockstar soap, so I purchased one because I love that candy sweet scent-- unfortunately, it didn't really make for very big bubbles, and they didn't really last very long either. Not very memorable, and I don't think I'd purchase it again :(
- Gnome Name (Holiday): *****
So not only does this little guy look hilariously adorable, he smells awesome-- just like coke or pepsi :) Makes huge bubbles and the water turns a fun orangey red-- the scent definitely lingers too. I wish I still had some So White bathbomb left to cocktail with after reading about apple cider smelling baths!
BATH BALLISTICS/BATH MELTS
- Star Melt Bath Melt: **
Honestly, I was unimpressed. This was the first bath melt I had ever used and although it made the water pretty creamy, I didn't feel it was all THAT moisturizing, and there was nothing that really stood out about it-- not a super strong smell, not an interesting color, nothing. If I want moisture I'd rather just use butterball :(
- Butterball: ***
I am not a fan of how this bath bomb smells. I'll just say that to begin with-- but as for what it does-- pretty amazing! This little guy packs a LOT of moisture within.. in theory, it sounds great, but unfortunately, I just ended up feeling greasy after my bath :( It was a good try, but I probably will not be purchasing again.
- So White: ***
I looove how this bath bomb smelled, I just wish it was bigger! It made the water creamy and frothy and wonderful though.. but I think I have a larger than normal tub so it just didn't seem large enough :(
- Big Blue: ****
I'm not a huge fan of sea salts/seaweed/etc but I purchased this bomb just to cocktail with sunnyside-- have not used it on its own. It does make the water a BEAUTIFUL turquoise color, and the seaweed inside did not clog my drain by any means. I would definitely purchase again to cocktail :)
- Avo Bath: ****
Super refreshing bath! Lots of lemongrass scent in this-- very invigorating :) There's also some light shimmer inside! It does fizz up very quickly though.
MASSAGE BARS/MISC:
- Therapy Massage Bar: *****
Okay so, I SWEAR by this massage bar. They're not kidding when they say that it helps with stretch marks. My boyfriend had these deep stretch marks on the base of his back (probably from growing too fast when he was a teenager) and they were practically white-- you could tell it was severely scarred. This was one of the first products I bought from Lush, primarily to use as a moisturizer but I found it too greasy for that (at least in the summer, now that it's the dead of winter I will use it on my legs after shaving) so instead I decided to experiment on him and used it on him probably 3-5 times a week. We're on our 3rd bar now and his stretch marks are barely visible. Seriously amazing stuff, I will continue to purchase this as long as Lush carries it.
- Each Peach Massage Bar: ****
Smells great, looks pretty, but I could tell that it was not quite as moisturizing as Therapy. I wish it actually smelled like peaches instead of citrus though...
- Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar: ****
I love how this one smells, it's kind of on the same level as Each Peach but I do wish it was a tad bigger! I seem to go through it faster than the others.
- Honey I Washed the Kids Solid Perfume: ***
I love love looooove HIWTK soap. It's my favorite Lush product. So I was SUPER excited to get the solid perfume and smell like HIWTK ALL THE TIMEEEEEEEE but unfortunately, it's a lot more work than it's worth! First of all, it doesn't smell exactly like the soap. It doesn't smell BAD or anything (although I have heard some people say that it reacts with their body chemistry and ends up smelling closer to sour milk... ew.) but it's got more of the "clean" note in it than the "toffee" note like the soap does. Basically, it's a really light version of HIWTK soap-- and it wears off after about an hour... so unless you want to keep applying it every hour, it's kind of not worth it.
