I was hoping that you all could help me out with a dilemma I seem to find myself in. After reading about reports from people who have done the no poo method I decided to cut out using any store bought shampoo or conditioner to get my hair nice and healthy. In any case, I didn't follow the no poo method as it's taught but since then have only used Jungle conditioner on my hair and Godiva solid shampoo bar. (I would alternate when I washed my hair but never used both products in the same hair washing session.) Since August I have not used any other shampoo or conditioner except the one time when I dyed my hair red in December and I used the shampoo and conditioner in the box made specially for that dye once.
Fast forward, I stopped using Godiva altogether as it strips the colour from my dyed hair and have been washing my hair once or twice a week using solely Jungle conditioner and scrubbing my scalp with warm water to loosen any dirt and oil. I have extremely thick and dry hair so I tend to wash as little as possible and find that my hair doesn't start to look dirty or greasy until a week of not washing. For the last month or so though my hair has been curly all funky and feeling more dry and damaged overall. After I shower my hair never feels nice until it's been a few days or if I cave in and flat iron in (in which it feels so much better and healthier oddly enough).
Okay, so enough of the history of my hair, not to the point. This weekend I visited friends at the school I just graduated from and I just had to wash my hair as I didn't get a chance to before I left. Since I forgot to bring my Jungle with me and my hair just really craved feeling super clean for once I used my ex suitemates generic shampoo and some conditioner I didn't recognize but it looked nice and was for super dry and damaged hair. Afterwords my hair felt so amazing and clean and when it dried naturally it was a lot softer and more manageable than it had been in the past. Now, my question is what of these options could have been the issue:
1. Perhaps lush hair products don't work well on my hair and sadly I am better off with other hair care prodcuts. And if this is the case can anyone suggest a shampoo and conditioner that I can use that is not too expensive and has the least amount of chemicals in it as possible?
2. Perhaps it is the water supply? I must admit that my hair always felt nicer when I washed it at school than it did at home and the water pressure is much harder at school than at home. But that confuses me as well as I always thought soft water was better for hair.
3. Maybe my hair just does not like not having a shampoo factor, which in that case I am thinking of trying out Lush's Trichomania's solid shampoo and hope it doesn't strip colour like Godiva. Could this be the issue?
Or does anyone else have suggestions for what might help my hair come back to a better state?
Thanks in advance and sorry for making this post so long!
