i know one of the big themes of lush is that they promote using little to no packaging in many of their products. the whole 'go naked' theme for taking home things like bath bombs, bubble bars, shampoos, soaps, etc. however, i'm wondering if this is an ideal which has yet to cross the atlantic.
for example:
when shopping recently in my local lush stores in manhattan, i specifically did not use the little plastic sleeves on-hand for the bath bombs, bubble bars and bath melts. but when i got up to the counter, the salesperson wrapped everything individually, including a little curled ribbon for each baggie. (might have been nice for a gift but not just to take home). i actually had to ask her to stop, that i preferred to just take them as is. she gave me a look but left the last 2 items alone.
i also recently received my online order (taking advantage of the free body butter promo!), talk about extra packaging! i know they have to wrap the items well to make sure they don't get too banged up in transit, but each body butter, shower gel, soap, shower jelly, and bath bomb were wrapped in about 3 layers of plastic bags taped shut, some with bubble wrap, and then padded with extra brown paper for cushioning. it took me a good 20 minutes just to 'free' everything from the packaging. true, the brown paper can be recyled but the baggies...not so much.
maybe i'm being a bit extreme on my personal preference for minimal waste but it's just something i wanted to bring up. anyone else have any similar experiences, comments, etc?
