Yabu opens his eyes. Dark… it is too dark for him to see. He tries to rub his eyes with his left hand, but to his disappointment he is touching the bandage instead. It’s not just his eyes; the bandage is almost wrapping the entire upper part of his head. Some parts are kind of wet, especially at the left side causing his hand to be sticky. Yabu brings his fingers to his nose, discovering such an unpleasant odor from it.
Is that pus?? On my head? Yucks!!
The boy wipes his fingers on the bed sheet. Using that very same hand he pats around, wanting to find the bed's edge. He just remembered that he needs to see Yamada whose legs are broken.
Once convinced, Yabu swings his legs to the left side, trying to get on his feet. However such action causes the IV drip on his right arm to snap- causing the boy to scream in pain.
“Ittai!!!!” he shouts. He could feel warm fluid gushing through his right hand -presumably blood- and presses his hand on the bed at instant. Soon enough he could hear the sound of footsteps getting closer to him.
“Are you all right Yabu-san?” a gentle female voice is heard. She quickly takes Yabu’s hand and put on some kind of cold stuff on top of it.
“Call the doctor! Yabu-san is awake!” another female voice yells. “Don’t worry Yabu-san, you’ll be fine…” she attempts to comfort him. “Just relax okay…”
Suddenly a quick sharp pin pierces his skin, and the confuse Yabu is back on his pillow again.
---------------------------------
Yabu walks in the empty corridor. He recognized that place at instant- this is the path that he took the moment he entered the hospital’s back entrance. That’s right; he was looking for an elevator.
The boy moves further. The place is so bright that he could not sees anything except for the doors that he passes by. It appears like there’s no end. The air seems still; as if the time has somewhat stopped. He looks at his wristwatch- and as just thought the needles of his watch is stagnant.
What the hell is going on?
Yabu reaches the cell phone from his right pocket. He needs to call someone to pick him, or he will continue to be lost in this maze. The moment he takes out his phone a white phone strap fall on the floor.
Dejavu.
That’s right, I am not lost. I was actually looking for Hika’s strap that went missing on my way to the elevator.
Yabu bends down to pick the white strap, but to his dismay a strong gush of wind blows the strap away from him, causing it to fly into an open door. Desperately he chases after it, entering the door without even bother to knock.
And he succeeds. The white strap is now in his hand. Relieved, he carefully ties the strap on his cell phone next to the black one he already has now, not wanting for it to be missing again.
Yabu gets straight back on his feet. The room is unexpectedly brighter than outside, needing the boy to squint to be able to see clearer. There’s no furniture as much as he can see, but at the far most right corner stands a man with his back facing the boy.
“Sumimasen…” Yabu politely greets. “Do you know how to get to the elevator? I want to visit my friend. He is supposed to be in the surgical ward.”
The man did not say any word, just silently shook his head.
“Souka…” Yabu seems disappointed. “I’ll find it myself then. Thank you sir,” he turns around to exit.
But suddenly the door shuts by itself.
“You can’t leave now you know,” the mysterious man opens his mouth, giving Yabu goose bumps to hear the voice.
He turns around, shocked to see a man whose upper left of his head badly scarred like no other.
Yabu gulps. “Who are you?”
The man smiles. “Your destiny.”
“Kota, Kota… Wake up dear…”
The brunette moves his fingers. He is still a bit drowsy from whatever shot they gave him before.
But there is something different this time.
He can see the lights as he opens his eyes.
Yabu touches his face. Indeed only the left side of his face is patched now. He opens his right eye wider and wider, revealing the smiling faces that assemble around his bed.
“Mum? Dad?” he mumbles.
“Yukatta…” Yabu sees his mother wiping her own tears in smile. Next to her stand his father, who is also showing a face of gratefulness.
“Yabu-kun!!!!!!!!!” Yuto nonchalantly runs from the corner and hug Yabu with all his might. “I thought you were dead!!”
“Baka!” Daiki curses the tallest boy. “Can’t you think of better greeting words?”
Yamada laughs. “That’s Yuto. Being childishly sincere is his only good point.”
“Yeah,” Chinen comes closer to the bed. “Despite being the biggest in the group!” he messes Yuto’s hair with his hand. “Okaeri Yabu-kun!”
“Huuu… you see… they’ve been bullying me like this every day,” the pouty Yuto reports to the apparently still confuse group leader. “Yabu-kun… tasukete… huuuuu…”
Yabu just give a smile. Honestly he didn’t know how to react to this loud surrounding. They’re pretty noisy of course, but this atmosphere also makes him feel so safe; he feels belonged to.
Yabu looks around a little closer.
“If you’re looking for Hika or Kei, they’re not here,” Daiki speaks. “They’re summoned by Johnny-san.”
“Together with Ryu and Yuyan,” Chinen adds in. “But they said they’ll come after the meeting.”
Yabu just silently nods. He touches the wrapped part of his face again. This time the bandage is dry. The nurses might have changed them just before he woke up this time.
But the dream…
“Are you all right?” Yamada asks, noticing the unpleasant expression on the oldest face. “Are you in pain? We can call the nurses.”
“I’m fine,” Yabu denies. “Just… bad dreams…” he put his head back on his pillow.
The scarred man…
That was me… my face burnt… I’m disabled now… I… I…
I’M UGLY!

Hikaru stays at the hospital that night. He is sleeping soundly on the couch provided until a noise from the door wakes him.
The boy immediately gets up. The clock shows 1 am. He looks around, and his worries become real. Yabu Kota is missing from his bed. He quickly puts on his jacket and runs towards the corridor. There is nobody there.
Suddenly Hikaru hears the sound of the elevator closing. He rushes towards the elevator, focusing at the numbers on the display. It is just what he is afraid of the most.
The elevator stops at the fifteenth floor- the rooftop.
Masaka…
Hikaru impatiently presses the other elevator until it opens, and quickly push number fifteen button. The ride seems too long for him.
Please Kota… please don’t do anything silly… Oh Lord…
And he finally arrives. Hikaru quickly steps out and take the staircase to the roof top.
His fear has becoming true. There, in the chilly night breeze Yabu Kota is standing at the edge of the roof that is only an inch away from falling.
“Yamette!!!” Hikaru yells as he runs towards the boy.
Yabu turns around. “Hika…”
“What are you doing?! It’s dangerous there! Get down!” Hikaru screams even more. “Do you want to die?”
“I… I …”
“What?!”
“I don’t want to be a burden to all of you anymore.”
“What makes you think dying is not burdening?”
“I know Johnny-san asks you to get me to leave the group! I know they want to disband us!”
“Just that?? You want to die just because of that??” Hikaru walks closer to the boy. “Just how stupid you are?”
“This will end everything!”
“It only ends your life, but it doesn’t solve anything!”
“I’m ugly now! My career is over! My life is over!” Yabu begins to shed tears. “Nobody wants to see this burnt face on their TV!”
“I do!” Hikaru shouts. “I want to see your face every day, to hear you breath next to me. Please… for me… don’t do this…” he kneels, weeping. “I can’t live without you Kota…”
Yabu wipes his tears, smiling. “I’m sorry Hika…”
Hikaru gasps. The moment he lift his face Yabu let himself fall from the building.
“KOTA!!!!!!!” Hikaru opens his eyes. His body is wet from sweating and the boy is breathing heavily. He is still on the couch, and it is one minute to 0100.
“Hika?”
Hikaru turns around. In front of him Yabu Kota is sitting on his bed.
“Nightmares?” Yabu asks.
Hikaru gives a weak nod. He curls on the couch, hugging his knees with all his might.
Yabu, upon seeing this gets up on his feet and drags his IV pole to sit next to the boy. He pulls the blue blanket that was used by Hikaru and wraps it around the shivering boy. Hikaru on the other hand instantly rests his head on Yabu’s shoulder, letting his tears to wet the other boy’s shirt.
“I’m sorry,” Hikaru says in his weep.
“For what?”
“For everything,” the crying boy now lands on Yabu’s wide chest. “I don’t know what got into me. I should have listened first before judging you. No. In fact I shouldn’t be judging you at all. I should have trusted you. It’s my fault…”
Yabu gently strokes Hikaru’s head. “It was an unpredictable accident. It’s nobody’s fault. Not even mine.”
“I dreamt of you just now, desperately wanting to die,” Hikaru speaks in his sob. “I begged you to stop, but you… you fell…”
“Shhhh…” Yabu hugs Hikaru even tighter. “That’s just a dream…”
“It’s too real. I can feel it even now. The feeling of losing you... it’s unbearable.”
“Then let’s not make it real,” Yabu lifts Hikaru’s chin so that they are facing each other, and gently caresses his cheek. “I want you to be mine again Hika, forever. I realized I’ve been ignoring your feelings lately. By all means I just wanted to help Kei, but my heart belongs to you. I swear you’ll be my priority from this time onwards.”
Hikaru smiles in tears. “Really?”
“I’ll give my best,” Yabu kisses his lover’s forehead. “I too, need you in my life. Well, only if you can bare living with this ugly face-”
Hikaru put his right index finger on Yabu’s lips. “I think you are the most handsome,” he touches the wrapped part of Yabu’s head. “And the doctor said surgery may restore your appearance. So don’t think too much about the scar.”
“But not anytime soon I suppose,” Yabu murmurs. “Looks like JUMP might go into indefinite hiatus.”
Hikaru bites his lips. Actually Yabu is quite right. Under the current circumstances there’s no way they can move any further. Even Mr. Johnny has warned them during the meeting this morning, that the possibility to be put on hold is there. Although everybody seems calm hearing the news, Hikaru knows that just like him other members are devastated inside. Including Yabu. Even though he puts on the ‘strong’ appearance, Hikaru is aware that the boy is actually scared to face his reality once the bandage is removed.
But no matter what, Hikaru will be there to support him.
After all, being at Yabu’s side is where he belonged.
“We’ll fight,” Hikaru grabs Yabu’s hand.
“JUMP will fight.”
