AGC Camper: Do you have a twin?
Me: No...
AGC: Cause there was this girl here last year that looked just like you.

This week I had the extreme privilege to be assigned to Mission Camp. I have gone on Mission Camp every year that I have worked at Highroad, and generally do not look forward to it. Yet somehow I always end up going, and always end up learning valuable lessons there. This year was particularly rewarding, for the sheer evidence of God's hand in things.  The staff/team that was assembled brought the exact right mix of skills, attitude, and flexibility and it was clear that every person chosen was the exact right person for the job.  Our team was actually split into several different units that were sent to differing sights, and I had to good fortune to be assigned along with Andrew, Joe, and JR to Culmore church, to help run the Vaction Bible Study. We were witness to such a culture of violence, including a beating that took place just a block or two away from our church, and a sermon about a Methodist minister who hit his wife, I am unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to be able to preach a message of love to those children. I remember during a devotion Marjie told about how she couldn't remember the story of Jonah, but as the she began to speak the words just came to her, and she said she knew that it wasn't her, but the Holy Spirit working through her. It amazed me at the time she said it, and even more the next day when I found myself leading a Bible study for much longer than I planned, and all the answers, and the stories, and just the right words were pouring out, I could just feel something other than myself making that possible. I remember us singing a song called "Once Again" during a worship service and this murmur rippled through the kids as if they were absolutely shocked. We found out later that it was the first line of the song that had made the powerful impact. The line goes, "Jesus Christ I think upon your sacrifice" and we sang it to kids who had never heard "Jesus Christ" used as anything other than a curse word. What a blessing to be able to teach them what "Jesus Christ" actually means, and to show the force of love behind it.

We also caused eight 2-liter bottles of Diet Coke to explode by way of adding Mentos to them.
