Tippy: The Adventurers won't eat the bacon.
Tippy: Because that one kid said, "Hey, isn't bacon made out of piggies?"
Me: Hey, aren't waffles made out of kittens?
So this week was the last week of "normal" camp, and what an eventful week it was. Granted by "eventful" I mostly mean "hot". So as a special treat to help cool down the Wranglers, I got to do their Ropes Course in the pool! The goal was to keep the kids in the shade and in the water as much as possible. This was a challenge for someone whose job it is to teach firebuilding in the afternoons (someone being me). So for Pioneer Day this week we played an authentic rustic game of Ye Olde Capture the Pioneer Flag with authentic rustic water balloons.
Vanessa: (upon filling about 200 latex water balloons) They look like beautiful Easter eggs....
Me:....of DOOM.
On the off chance that there was anyone who didn't know I was allergic to latex, well, I think we all know now. Here's another thing we all now know- when you've had only 2 hours of sleep and a Benedryl, that is probably not the best time to try and lead singing. All in all a very educational week.
All summer long I've been demanding a hayride from Fox Den to the dining hall. I finally got one. Life was good.
So I want to say how proud I am of my CITs this week. First, they all just went out of their way to be helpful and cheerful, and it did not go unnoticed. Secondly, I did a devotion about rebuilding Jerusalem, and how much it meant to the Israelites, how hard they had to work and pray and suffer to get it done. But they did get it done, because it meant so much to them. I did this devotion in a field on the way to the creek that used to be a fire circle but became abandonned and overgrown. Even the big wooden cross was broken. I'm telling you this because the CITs/support staff really took the devotion to heart. They spent their free time on Thursday morning repairing the cross, and of their own according clearing out all the weeds and brush. There is now a beautiful place to pause on that path and spend some time with God. I only pray that the staff of Highroad can continue to see camp as their Jerusalem and dedicate time and prayer into rebuilding it.
Also Crispy got me the best book ever. Tune in later for some high quality excerps.
