Why do people run from me?

If you were just on the district and circle line between South Kensington and High Street Kensington, and just happened to see a short blonde woman grinning like a lunatic. That may have been me, for I have just read the most wonderful book.

You see, there is a brilliant bookshop near Russell Square called Persephone Books (and another in Kensington) and they publish forgotten twentieth century books, mostly by female writers. They have 78 books on their roster and they're one of those wonderful companies that I never feel guilty for spending money on as they're independant and beautiful. So it's not so much like I'm buying books as helping a worthy endevour. I highly recommend them, and you can order the books over the net if you don't live in London (though you should totally move here, it rocks).

The book I just read, Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day, is possibly their best known at the moment because it has just been made into a film that in all accounts is doing rather well. As I have mentioned, the book is wonderful. I shall reserve judgement on the film, though I'm a bit nervous that they've changed it around some. But I've heard good things about it, so it could turn out alright. It also has one of my favorite dishy older men, Ciaran Hinds. Yum.

Here's the trailer:
