Midnight info maniac syndrome

Dec 03, 2011 14:00

I admit that it started in my teens. Midnight, 1:00 Am, 2:00 Am, I couldn't sleep because of the brutal side effects of asthma medications. My oldest sister had given me a short-wave receiver. It was about 5 times the size of a regular transistor radio, but with its single ear bud, I could get the CBC, and on a good night, BBC radio. In those days, many stations that are now mainstream were underground stations run out of the bowels of Universities somewhere. I could listen to repeats of the King Biscuit Flour Hour and Grateful Dead shows.

Later on I was able to replace the old set with a Single-side band radio less than half the size. I carried on the early-morning info mania, sometimes to the chagrin of mt ex. I got an iPod, too, but what I wanted was real time news.

I realized in the wee hours of the night last night that I am still doing it, only now my news feed is from the internet. My Netbook and Nook feed my need.

Yes, my friends, I am a Midnight Info Maniac. I sleep better knowing that the world is out there, still turning, and churning out news.

habits, internet radio, internet
