Or is it just me?  I spent a day looking for a story I'm positive I read but I can't find and suspect it doesn't exist outside my head.

This has happened before, usually with fanfic and sometimes with scenes from stuff I watch; I can see it clear as day in my head but can't find it anywhereI have my suspicions my subconscious is messing with me

Its not just you. I once spent a week trawling round a fandom looking for a fic I swore existed, but never found it. I'm still not entirely sure if my brain made it up, or if the author was removed, or if I just can't find it.
