So, the M-I-L and Wally arrived in Brisbane last Saturday morning. After various hold-ups at customs - one of which was the presence of food in their hand luggage - I mean, you get fed every three hours on the flights, why bring sandwiches? - they made it to the gate and we picked them up. MIL is a lovely, quiet, funny woman who we are both really pleased to see, whereas Wally is everything that is stereotypical about an old Scouser - loud, inconsiderate, always has to be the centre of attention, and can't utter a sentence without liberal use of the terms 'luv', 'queen', 'duchess' and 'lad'. He has the attention span of a three year old and there isn't a single thing that pops into his head that doesn't come straight out of his mouth, without any sort of thought or consideration. He even reads out road signs as you are driving along!
Poor P had two days off with them, and I don't think he's ever been so glad to return to work this morning. They disappear for 12 days next Monday, so we will have some time to ourselves before they come back for a week. After they go, the BIL is over - not with us the whole time, though - and then my mum visits! At last, a visitor that I can do things with!!!
Anyhow, rant over for the present.
Just had a call from P - not good news. The job offer he had has been withdrawn, because its taking too long for my work to take over the visa. Not my company's fault, as there is a huge backlog at the immigration department, but such is life, I suppose. They'd been saying that the wait was not a problem, but have obviously still been looking because they've found someone else for the position. Fortunately, he's not handed his notice in and not told anyone where he works, so he can stay there for the time being.
