I think Jake comes off as classy and professional in this, but the interview itself is pretty boring. In the vids of fan events he always seems personable and friendly, but in (print, at least) interviews, it seems a bit like pulling teeth.
I agree with him that Reid is a more interesting character than Noah. To put it mildly.
I do wish him luck with the future, and I can't praise him enough for taking this role at a time many other people wouldn't have.
I liked how MF subtly (but kindly) acknowledged the, shall we say, less-than-friendly fan demands for this interview. The tone of the comments is surprisingly (that's sarcasm) different from those left in the ESS interview. We'll leave it at that

Sweet baby jesus! I couldn't have put it better myself. To put it alot less eloquently then you my darling; fuck what the fans want! If you try and make everyone happy, the story suffers, which feels like what's happened.
I feel like the writers wrote themselves into a corner and instead of having the balls to make a choice (or have Luke make a choice)they just decided to get rid of Reid and then not really put Nuke back together and leave it open ended. Cop out! I would have accepted Nuke getting back together fully and Reid becoming COS and moving on. This shit they've come up with boggles my mind!
Like I said, this is the way less eloquent, long-winded version of what you just said. So in short; I agree! Hehe. :)
Exactly, Luke could have eventually dumped Noah and crawled back to Reid. I don't think Luke could have lasted long with boring, stiff Noah with Reid living across the street in Oakhell.
I have to admit, the comments are making me a bit sick to my stomach. If ever you need proof that a crush on an actor blinds you to the reality of the character (or, unfortunately, the actor's relative talent and skills)...look no further. I won't say any more on that, or else I really will fall into bashing territory. (And yes, I know the same can be said for LuRe fans, but for myself, I do try to recognize my prejudices alongside objective truths, instead of treating my opinion as fact.)
Even when I was a hardcore Nuke fan, I acknowledged that Jake's acting skills were weak overall. Hell, I couldn't stand Van for quite a while last year when he was ACTING LIKE HE WAS STUCK IN HARRY POTTER BOOK FIVE. Then Eric came along, and Van stopped overracting and he brought the subtlety again.
Honestly, reading some of the comments I'm just...amazed.
I've always liked Jake but boy oh boy, ESS just has way better acting skills that Jake and that's why many of us are so fascinated by the Doctor Oliver character.I think Jake is a classy guy but they did a number on him in the fantasy world of ATWT, and the last straw was when they introduced us to the fabulous Reid Oliver.
I totally just lost my reply to this. It was very insightful and well-written :D. Yeah, that's what I took from his statement too. I'm not sure how much we'll hear from Van or ESS on the end, because Van at least does tend to toe the line somewhat (which is completely understandable) and they're bound to have different perspectives on what they wanted, especially if they got meaty scenes. I just want one of the three to acknowledge that it sucks the straight couples end up happy and the gay couples are "open-ended."
I'm a bit more pessimistic about this than you are, simply because Van and Jake both have an unfortunately tendency of referring to "the fans" when what they REALLY mean are "the Nuke fans." I also seem to recall rumors that Dansby is writing the next-to-the-last episode, and she fairly consistently throws LuRe development and consistency out the window in order to write with a Nuke spin. I can easily see this ending with a "you're still the one" bit of garbage that will leave everyone outside of the Nuke cult spitting nails.
But whatever. I won't be watching by this point anyway.
Eh? I don't pay much attention to the writers, but I thought Dansby was one of the better LuRe writers? She's always one of the ones listed in relation to good LuRe development/scenes.
There were some interesting things in that interview.
Yeah, absolutely. In the end Noah did grow up a bit, and in that way it was kind of a real story, not some over romanticized depiction of a first love. These guys did have their moments, and sadly, sometimes people who grow close do move away from each other. Ultimately, I am happy if the fans are happy.
This was sort of weird. He has to know that his fans aren't going to be happy with an open ending (assuming it remains open). But he also talks about how first loves growing apart was realistic. I agree with him on that point but realistic doesn't always equal happy fans in soap viewing.
I think it’s a triangle, because fans probably know where Luke is coming from. It’s part of the story even if Noah is not physically there. I would think that Luke still thinks of Noah.
This just made me laugh. I hope he's just trying to justify the "triangle" use because thinking of an ex doesn't a triangle make.
Finally--
Yeah, Noah can often come off as backing Luke up in
