Prayers (part 1 because i'm too darn wordy...) dpracket November 19 2011, 00:42:36 UTC
"Seriously, Mr. Snyder? You're following me?"

"I wouldn't have to follow you if you'd stop and discuss this with me. You were out of line in there, Dr. Oliver. You can't talk to people like that."

"I can and I do," Reid said, pulling the door open to the stairwell.

"Ya know, we have perfectly good working elevators in this hospital..."

"Yeah, well, that's debateable," Reid said, ascending the stairs at a brisk pace. "Did Bob send you to chastise me, Mr. Snyder?"

"No...will you slow down, please?" Luke asked, breathing hard, trying to keep up with Reid. "Listen, Bob's been really patient with you in these meetings, but I can tell it's wearing thin..."

"Why are you here?" Reid asked, exiting the stairwell.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, why do you have to be present at these meetings?"

"Mostly, I think my job is to keep you from saying something stupid," Luke said as they stepped into the hall by Reid's office.

"Yeah, how's that going for you?"

"Stellar," Luke said sarcastically.

"I don't need anyone babysitting me. Especially you."

"Listen, my money's backing this wing, and things would go a lot smoother if the board and half the hospital staff didn't hate you. We're not even off the ground yet, and you've pissed off all the major players. Would it kill you to just be a little more polite, and maybe not talk down to everyone around you?"

"If people hate me, that's their problem...I'll see you later, Mr. Snyder." Luke followed Reid into his office. "Oh my God, you're coming in? I don't remember inviting you..."

"Shut up, Reid." Reid opened his mouth to say something but then closed it and glared at Luke. Did this KID really have the audacity to tell him to shut up AND call him by his first name? Who the hell did he think he was? "I understand that you're brilliant," Luke continued. "You never fail to remind everyone of that. But damnit, the rest of us aren't idiots just because we don't perform neurosurgery! There are plenty of good ideas flowing around that board room table, and it would benefit you to take time to consider them. Respectfully."

"I'm a busy man. I don't have time to entertain sub standard ideas."

"You are such an arrogant asshole," Luke said, putting his hands on his hips and stepping closer to Reid, his face reddening in frustration. "Do you ever stop and listen to yourself? You're unbelievable. I've never met anyone like you."

"And now you have. Lucky you."

Luke rolled his eyes. "You're going to alienate everyone. I have no idea what Bob was thinking when he put you in charge of this thing."

"My record speaks for itself, Mr. Snyder."

"It COULD speak for itself if you let it, but you're too busy boasting about your geniousness."

"Geniousness? I don't think that's a word, Mr. Snyder. But if it was, yes, it would describe me. Done talking? Good," Reid finished, reaching around Luke and closing the door behind him.

Luke glared at Reid, but then his eyes fell to Reid's mouth.

Love this! It really captures just how in each other's faces they were at the beginning. I loved when Luke didn't hesitate to stand up to Reid. And Reid loved it to. Great job.

Love the passion in this. I did enjoy the early days when they really didn't like each other even as the attraction was always simmering under the surface.
