Reid pulled the curtain aside and looked down from the second story window into the backyard of the Snyder farm. "Holy shit...half of Oakhell is down there," he said, with a sigh.

"Relax," Katie said, squeezing Reid's upper arm. "I'll be right by your side, remember? Best man and all that?"

Reid looked over at her in her royal blue, form fitting dress. "You're the most beautiful best man ever." He kissed her cheek.

Katie smiled and turned as John Oliver knocked and then entered the room. "They're almost ready for you," he said, smiling tightly at Katie.

"I better go check on Jacob," Katie said. "He was a nervous wreck about his ring bearing responsibilities. I'll see you down in the kitchen in a few mintues, 'kay, Reid?"

Reid nodded. He then looked at his father before looking away and tugging down on the cuffs of his shirt sleeves, making sure they didn't disappear into the sleeves of his coat.

"That suit looks good on you," his father said.

"Thanks," Reid said, uncomfortably, shifting back and forth on his feet. "Listen, Dad...I know you don't support this, and I know that you're only here because Mom made you come...But I want you to know I'm still glad you're here." He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Anyway...just...thanks for coming or whatever."

John stepped toward his son. "Look at this," he
said, reaching for Reid's tie. "Who taught you how to tie one of these things?" He tugged on the knot. Reid rolled his eyes but still allowed his father to adjust it for him. "I just met Luke, but he seems like a decent enough guy," John said, straightening Reid's tie. "Is he good to you?"

"We're good to each other," Reid answered quietly, replacing his father's hands with his own and smoothing the front of his shirt.

"You're happy."

"Yes. Very." Reid started to turn away, but his father put his hand on his arm.

"There's a peace about you," John said. Reid nodded. "You were always a restless kid. And even as an adult, you've never seemed content. It's like you couldn't find a place."

Reid bit his bottom lip and looked down.

"But I can tell, you've found it now. You're different. It's like you're finally comfortable in your own skin, and it shows."

Reid took a deep breath. "He's it for me, Dad."

"I know. I'm happy for you, son." He put his hands on either side of Reid's face and forced him to look in his eyes. "I'm going to get better at this. Don't give up on me yet. Okay?"

Reid nodded and blinked away the emotion threatening his eyes. "Thanks, Dad. Thanks for saying that."

"I mean it."

"I know."

"I love you." He kissed Reid's cheek.

Reid nodded.

"And I'm proud of you."

Reid thumbed the corner of his eye. "Fuck, Dad..." He chuckled, playing off the fact that he was about to be undone by hearing his father say the words he'd been waiting to hear for over 15 years.

John clapped him on the shoulder. "C'mon. Let's go get you hitched..."

Aw, Katie is a beautiful best man! I do find it comforting to see Reid have a nice parent or at least one that is trying to treat him right. Very touching, thank you!

Thank you.

One of the things I hated about the ending of the show (aside from the obvious) is that we didn't find out much about Reid until after he died, and then suddenly we find out his parents were dead, he didn't have any siblings, and he had this maybe not-so-nice uncle who raised him. I mean, why couldn't they have given us a little backstory on him along the way: like why he was so driven, why he said "one isn't such a low number," and that he was pretty much alone in the world. I mean, even Katie (or was it LUke?) said something after he died about she and Jacob being his family because he didnt' have one or something like that.

It would have been nice to get some tidbits along the way, and what great bonding material for him and Luke.

But, oh, wait...that would have taken away from the Janet show and the imaginary clown. *sigh*

And I go back and forth...sometimes I give Reid a family, and sometimes I got with canon and they're long gone.

Oh, how absolutely sweet. I love how everything is coming to a good place all at once for Reid - that he can be absolutely happy.

Awwww! I love it when Reid's parents are still around (and really, ATWT, retconning his parents to be dead too after his own death was unnecessary), and even better when they work on improving their relationship. :)
Also, best man!Katie ftw!
