Controversial Troy Tavern Owner Plans to Run for Mayor

Elda Abate, the Troy tavern owner who has had numerous conflicts with the city administration, filed a petition to run for mayor on Thursday.
The owner of Elda's and the Eldorado Hotel in Troy, and the Elda's in Albany, submitted 1,007 signatures to the Board of Elections -- almost twice the 597 signature-minimum necessary to get on the ballot as independent party Troy People's party, which she created.
The opinionated and outspoken Abate has butted heads with the city administration in the past. Elda's and Eldorado were shut down for numerous violations, including serving underage patrons and failing to maintain code. Both establishments remain closed.
