I've been eating nothing but mushrooms and vegetables as my daily warm meal for over a week now. The forests are so full of mushrooms at the moment that I could probably find something to eat there every day. I've even collected mushrooms from our garden for two meals already. I've found four different types of edible mushrooms on our garden alone, which is just unheard of.
Remember to never eat mushrooms unless you're 100% sure that they're edible. Every year people die from mushrooms poisoning in Finland.
(I'm going to use the Finnish names for the mushrooms, as Wikipedia just gives me the Latin names on the English Wikipedia page for these mushrooms, or 2-4 different English names for them, that I'm unfamiliar with so I can't choose from them. The links go to the English Wikipedia pages.)
I've learned to identify at least two new mushrooms this Fall:
rusko-orakas/valko-orakas (they're apparently the same mushroom these days) and
lampaankääpä. When we were mushroom hunting with MM and Mary last Sunday we also collected some white mushrooms that were either
känsätuhkelo or
nuijakuukunen. (We did identify which one they were but I've already forgotten.) We fried them on a frying pan and they tasted like mushroom flavored marshmellows. Very weird. We didn't eat them as we had other better mushrooms on hand, like several different types of
tatti. Oh, I can recommend trying
mustatorvisieniwith sukiyaki (Japanese dish) as they were delicious served like that.
I need to go to my
suppilovahvero forest as mom said that they found a lot of them last weekend at Porvoo.
