Yesterday I was at
h_a_k_u and
miyakomiya's going away costume party. My enthusiasm before the event was 0%, but I did end up having a good time, even when I was expecting otherwise. I have great friends. And the party did cheer me up considerably. My battery was running low (I need to buy a second battery for my camera), so I only took one photo there. Other people took plenty of photos and I'm looking forward to seeing some of those. Also, even my close friends didn't recognize me in my costume, which was awesome. xpI uploaded some food photos from this past month. I've started to take more food photos since most of the people who took part in my
photo poll would like to see more food photos.
This is my second take at grandma's blueberry pie recipe (August 11). I used less flour on the topping so it ended up looking very different from the
first version.
We happened to have lots of people over that day (I mainly baked it for Haku though) and it was a sunny day so we ate it at the backyard. Notice the Finnish milk can at the back. :p
The pie before it was baked in the oven.
You guys are probably starting to recognize what your kitchen counter and table tops look like by now. :p
I picked the blueberries for the pie myself from our closest forest.
This is what your hands look like after you've been picking blueberries.
My Irish cousins didn't know what a blueberry shrub looks like. Maybe you can't find them much outside of Scandinavia/Northern hemisphere. I baked my third blueberry pie this Summer a week ago when my Irish cousins where vising us, but I forgot to take a photo. xp I often notice after I've finished eating something that I meant to take a photo of it beforehand. Because once you start eating you're just like "mm, food..." so unless I remember to take a photo before I start eating, I forget about it before it's too late and then the food is no longer there. xp
Okey, here are some leftover ingredients from a barbeque and a pizza baking. (August 13)
The suspicious looking brown stuff on the right is minced meat-tomato sauce that we used as a pizza topping.
And this is what I made of those leftovers (on the right side of the plate). It was simple, yet quite good.
Also, this is the recommended and healthy way to fill up your plate according to the food pyramid: one half of salad (vegetables and fruit) and the other half of other food items (potatoes, rice, meat, fish and so forth). When it's possible (and I'm not feeling lazy) I try to fill my plate like this.
Shrimp and spinach pasta. (August 17)
I saw the recipe on a magazine somewhere and I was inspired. I'm also trying to learn to eat shrimps since they're not one of my favorite things.
It was good and quite easy to make. Just chop up an onion and fry it on a pan with some oil. Then add a handful of shrimps (I used frozen ones) and a larger handful of frozen spinach. Fry them for a little bit and then add 1-2 deciliters of cream and spice it to your liking. Garlic goes well with shrimps as I've learned from
hurmeenhuiske. Serve with some boiled pasta. It made about 2-3 servings, if I remember correctly.
I didn't make this meat sandwich, but it was so yummy that I had to take a photo of it. (August 23)
That slice of peach or something on top of that beef roast (?) was an unexpected combination but it was delicious. I'll have to keep that in mind.
Everytime that I'm eating a sandwich like this I'm reminded of this substitute teacher at the cooking school who was teaching us how to make sexy sandwiches. You need to add volume to the sandwich to make them look sexy. He was adamant about that so it's remained in my memory until now. :p I have a couple of secrets on how to make delicious sandwiches, but it takes more work than I'm usually willing to put into sandwiches. I don't know, if my sandwiches are sexy though. xp That sandwich on the photo isn't very high on the sandwich sexyness scale, but at least it's putting some effort into it. :p [EDIT]
There was a blast from the past on
Unco Upon A Win: the Muzzy videos. We got them
in English from our aunt in Ireland and I remember watching them as a kid. That bit with the plums is still what comes to my mind when I think of the word "plums". :p
