Familiarity with people's music tastes

I found one of ATB's songs on Youtube today that just puts me into sensory ecstasy. I don't know where I've heard it before because I don't have the song, but I've heard it before somewhere. This song kind of reminds me of Black & Jones' Nightfly, which I also love. I've never been under the influence of any sort of intoxicating substance so the closest that I can imagine to how it might feel is when I'm listening to good music. Some songs just go straight to my head and make me enter into a totally different headspace. I close my eyes and just feel.

The other day I was thinking about how great it would be to come home after a bad day and someone would know what music to play to me (like a CD or some mp3) to make it better. It made me realize how little even the people who are closest to me know about my music taste when you come down to it. And it goes both ways. I mean, I know what sort of music my friends like, but knowing what music they like to listen to in certain moods, that's something that I don't know that specifically. This would probably be something that you need to tell someone. I have certain songs that I listen to when I'm angry and just want to let some steam out and other songs that I listen to when I'm feeling sad. Familiar songs hold memories and feelings and sometimes they're connected to people that I know. It'd be a big task for someone else to know all of that. Maybe it'd be impossible for someone besides myself to have knowledge about all those things. I don't even always know myself what sort of music I'm in the mood for.

When I'm with other people I always try to take into consideration what sort of music they might want to listen to. The only time when I listen to exactly the music that I'm in the mood for is when I'm alone. I don't have any idea, if other people operate under the same premice. The cottage trip got my sleeping schedule "out of whack" and closer to normal people's sleeping schedules. Now I'm getting sleepy after midnight and have trouble staying awake at 1AM. Maybe I should just head to bed.
