Kamichu

We finished watching Kamichu the other day. It's a cute series targeted for teenage girls. Lines like, "This wish says 'please help me with my girlfriend'. Wait, it's from the Prime Minister... isn't he married?" makes it a little unsuitable for some ages.

The general idea is this first year middle school girl, Yurie, just found out she's a god (this occurs right before the series starts). Yurie is very shy; she grows as she experiences the problems others bring to her and the friendships she creates. It's a very cutesy series.

The good... it's young-crowd appropriate yet entertaining enough for adults to watch. The series is about the right length and doesn't leave you wanting at the end. Comparable types of anime would be Kiki's Delivery Service or Spirited Away.

The bad... it's cutesy. Not disgustingly so, but it has it's sugary moments. As above, it's got some (rare) lines and relationships that make it more of a teen or older series; only bad in that TCR and I were hoping for another series to keep little ones entertained without watching, say, The Little Mermaid enough times to wear out two VHS tapes.

The ugly... no ugly with this one.
