So the IRS has been:
1) Collecting Political Affiliation Data
and
2) Withholding Tax Enforcement Statistics
Why is the public not especially upset about this? Why it the mainstream media failing to report it?
I understand that it is possible that the two are not linked. Both are however illegal and the fact that either is happening at all is what's troubling. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE that I have nothing to hide. That most people have nothing to hide. That is not the point.
It just keeps coming.
-surveillance of telephone calls and e-mail messages
-the efforts of the White House to make the The Patriot Act permanent
-The ever growing scope of the Abramoff scandal
-The likely confirmation of a man who favors broad executive power
-resistance from our president re: a ban on torture
-the CIA leak re: Valerie Plame
The american public puts up with this, they make excuses for it, they justify it and they deny it and then they slap "Freedom isn't Free" bumper stickers on their SUVs.
No, freedom isn't free, it's priceless and anyone who won't fight for it, anyone who gives it away for ANY reason, DOES NOT deserve to have it.
US soldiers dying to protect our "freedom" while we give away our civil liberties, hand over fist, sickens me.
