[#157] Movie: Pirates 3
I can't believe the words are about to come out of my mouth (figuratively) but I think we'd've been better off if they stopped after the first movie. Well, I mean, this stems from the following feeling: what good is canon if all you want to do is ignore it? On the other hand, if I think of this as a separate movie with awesome characters, then I did enjoy it. Confusing, confusing (much like the movie *cough*). But some parts were just gold.
Also, apparently, in some fandoms a lot of the fanfiction gets it/guesses right: (spoilers)
*Jack's being stuck on an empty Pearl in some sort of limbo world? Totally guessed and written about. Dozens of shirtless Jacks adding up to the best scenes in the whole movie? No, that was AWESOME and unexpected XD And the goat omg. Ahahaha. They could've probed deeper into the whole psychological aspect of it though.
*Tia Dalma being Calypso and Davey's love? Totally guessed. Her big release amounting to pretty much nothing? That was wtf? The crabs were cute though?... (to quote
buttfacemakani, "Tia has crabs!" x)
*Will replacing Jones? Yup, also a popular theory. But omg, what, Will is never, under any circumstances, supposed to look hotter than Jack. D:!! No, I refuse. Jack is still teh awesome. I fangirled his escape from Beckett. A lot.
Norrington dying shouldn't've been as unexpected as it was :( But I guess it makes a lot of sense. LOL, though, someone pointed out that anyone Elizabeth kisses ends up dead (Jack, Norrington, Sao Feng, Will...). And in most instances, it takes like less than a minute between the kiss and the death (Will survived the longest, I guess because she lurves him). ("Once is quite enough!" Haha, GOOD FOR YOU JACK! But you could've at least made out with the two pretty "ladies" at the end). Oh, and if you didn't watch the scene after the credits, Will and Elizabeth have a son who looks a lot like that boy who is hung in the beginning.
crazy_megan has a link where it is argued that the green flash at the end indicates Will's return to the world of the living.
Basically, if after 10 years he comes back to find that his love remained true to him, then the curse is broken and he doesn't have to be captain anymore. I also read somewhere that the whole thing was intentioncally ambiguous in case Orlando & Keira don't want to return for other movies, if there are any. Depp said he's willing to do more, and ya know what? I wouldn't mind a movie that focuses on Jack only.
Final thoughts: The wedding? Most. Original. Wedding. Scene. EVER. Almost totally made up for there being absolutely nothing between Jack and Elizabeth even though it seemed like that was the whole focus of movie 2. Hrm. Also, for a moment I thought Elizabeth might end up with Norrington, which would've been the most ironic twist ever.

Ok, I'm way too conflicted about this movie. PotC 1 FTW.
CONCLUSION: PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl > All other movies of this genre.
p.s. I can't be the only one who thought "This is SPARTAAA!" when Elizabeth was all "This is madness!"
