how does it feel to treat me like you do?

Just watched the episode of Moving On from two weeks ago that starred John Simm.  Now, I had never seen any of this programme before (which is in its second series), but I watch literally everything I can get my hands on that has John Simm in it (cos I am in love and have been for years).  Thankfully, each episode of this show has its own set of ( Read more... )

I don't mind comments on my journal at all, especially when it's people remarking on John Simm. :) I love the man so freakin' much that it's ridiculous. My friends back in uni used to call me Mrs Simm (no matter how often I reminded them that he is already married).

Thanks for the confirmation on it being *the* Dominic West. It makes me happy as anything, cos those two are such good friends, so the thought of West directing Simm just makes me giddy.

I had no idea his stint as Hamlet was so short! Cos DT's was so LONG, so I kind of assumed that Simm's would be of somewhat similar duration. But, with all the rehearsal that goes into it, I would assume part of the reason he's been absent from telly and film is that he was working on preparing for the role. Sadly, as one who lives in the States, I have been unable to see him perform live as of yet, but hopefully that will one day change. I would give ANYTHING to see him perform in person.

And I wasn't aware of the filming in Manchester, but I will check out those pics. Information on that story isn't even available on IMDB yet (they only have Seven Days and Mad Dogs listed on there as being 'in production.') Thanks so much for the tip! I'm glad that we'll have more to see of him soon.

And I can't blame you for being obsessed with the Master. It's the role that introduced me to all things John Simm (and I've been in love with him ever since), and I'm obsessed with him. He's insane and sadistic and it's really kind of hot... I think I'm a bit disturbed in the head.

I think what I liked most about the SimmMaster (apart from his hotness of course) was the element of vulnerability - just a hint of it in the Series 3 episodes but loads more in TEOT. Somehow John seems to make even the most unsympathetic of characters likeable! (and you can't get much more unsympathetic than a sociopathic, possibly even psychopathic, murdering alien I'd have thought!!) It's a rare talent. He once said in an interview that he always looks for something he can identify with in any role, and cited it as the reason he could never play a paedophile. I would think its probably the one role that would be extremely hard to create any sympathy for - I remember Matthew Macfadden (formerly of 'Spooks' (or MI5 as you know it in the US) fame and who is married to Keely Hawes)tackled such a role and thinking it was very brave of him. Have no idea if he was any good because I couldn't bear to watch it...!

Talking of unlikeable characters, David Tennant is extremely unlikeable in a drama called 'Secret Smile' - even my sister, who adores DT, agreed that his character was horrible. Even DT's looks couldn't make us like the character.... from the book, its well worth seeing if you get the chance. Creepsville....

Sorry, that last paragraph WAS definitely Off Topic, wasn't it!

John really can make any character likable. I mean, they tried to make Sexby as ugly as possible, both in terms of personality AND looks (according the production team), and yet he still made Sexby the most lovable character in the series. And when Angelica broke his heart...well, let's just say some of my more violent tendencies almost broke out. I never forgave her for that. Who would look twice at that git Christian when they have the awesome Sexby around?! I just didn't understand her character at all...

ANYway, I have seen Secret Smile. I actually own it. And I am in the small minority of people who actually found Brendan Block kind of attractive. In real life, I have no doubt that I would have wanted his head on a silver platter for everything he did, but in film it didn't bother me too much. As a matter of fact, I was indignant that he ended up in prison for the one crime he actually *didn't* commit. Then again, I'm a very superficial person, so the fact that DT is hot just made the detestable character kind of sexy to my mind. My sister would agree with you and your sister though. DT was unlikable. I, on the other hand, have some major issues apparently. :)
