My Amazing Belated Birthday Gift

So, one of my best friends--quirkyoppossum --made me a belated birthday gift.  (Mainly cos she works at a summer camp and was away during my birthday).  She tends to make me vids for special occasions-- A Devil's Whore vid set to Billy Joel's Two Thousand Years just for kicks; a Peter/Olivia vid done to Coldplay's Fix You for my graduation.  And now for my ( Read more... )

Yes, it was on during series 3 and 4 of Alias. My junior and senior years of high school. And I loved loved LOVED it. It was a show without freaky sci-fi that I watched (which is rare for me as I usually need explosions and stuff to fix my interest) and it is just...beautiful. It is genuinely one of only 3 shows that have made me cry, and of those three, this is the one that's done it the most (the other two being Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Despite being the daughter of two ministers, I'm not extremely religious myself. However, when I watch this show, I find myself *believing.* The main reason? God is kind of a snippy, sarcastic asshole (think Peter Bishop in early s1), which if He is real, I imagine he would act that way. But, despite His occasional flippant comment, He greatly loves everyone in the show and He has amazing messages that he gives to Joan (and therefore, the audience). and they used a lot of my favourite bands from my high school days as background tracks.

But yes, my friend did a gorgeous job. I only wish more people were into this fandom. warning: if you do check it out, the ending of the series SUCKS because it wasn't supposed to be the ending. It was supposed to have one more series to finish off the programme, but it didn't get renewed. So everything is left open-ended in a not good way. One day, I will write a fanfic for myself (or finish the one I had started, technically) and then give it my own ending. Cos, yeah...I don't like how that went. That's the only downer part of the show though. The rest is just...wonderful loveliness. And you'll love Joan as a character. She's believable, but still strong. Truthfully, I love her because she is *exactly* like me. She even DRESSES like me and makes the same facial expressions as me. She and I would be best mates in real life. Too bad she's just a fictional character...*sigh*

WELL. Seasons 1 and 2 are on their way to my hard disk now. :D I hated the endings of Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls, because they were cancelled and rushed and they had to fit everything into a two minute roundup (and they couldn't possibly), but the most upsetting cancellation for me was Dark Angel. Cliffhanger with not much hope there... as long as you've got your world of pure imagination to fall into...

DAMMIT, NOW IT'S STUCK IN MY HEAD...

Yay! I hope to finish Wonderfalls up soon. And my brother just ordered series 1 of Pushing Daisies off amazon earlier today so I get to see that soon too.

And I agree about Dark Angel. I never saw any of series 2 cos they kept changing the time it came on, but one of my best friends in high school watched it, and I read about how it ended when she refused to talk about it (she was that upset)...yeah, it would have pissed me off. Thank god Fringe got renewed for a third series, that's all I can say. I would HATE to have had Over There Part II be the finale of that programme. I would have had to cut a bitch.
