I have only one thing to say: My Daddy is the best father in the world of any father anywhere. Why? He bought me Billy Joel tickets for June for an early 21 Birthday present.
First, he and Mum send me to England, not once, but twice! And now they're giving me the oldest desire of my heart, and the second greatest one--to see my longest running obsession in person. To move to England is the greatest desire of my heart (okay, to be honest, going to Narnia is the greatest, but something tells me that if sitting in my dad's wardrobe didn't work as a kid, it's not going to work now either). But, even older than my love of England, which started at age 5, is my love of Billy Joel and his amazing music, which started long before I can even remember. According to my dad, even when I was an infant, when BJ's songs came over the radio, no matter how restless i had been before, I would settle down upon the first sound of his voice.
Throughout all the trials and triumphs of my life, Billy Joel has been the soundtrack. When my heart is breaking, I place him on the radio and just let myself break to his sad, honest lyrics. When good news inhabits my life, I blare his music loudly and dance and sing. My Daddy learned very early that if he came home and I was crying while listening to Billy joel or watching Anastasia, the day had been a tough one indeed.
In just over two months, I will get to see in person the man whose voice has been as constant to me as my parents; the man who has inspired endless stories to my imagination; the man who made me a history geek with songs like Leningrad and We Didn't Start the Fire; the man who made me believe in love, as well as its heartbreak. I will get to see in person the man who taught me what it means to be human.
Could I be any happier right now? I almost start crying just picturing the concert in my head. It's times like these when I realise just how truly blessed I am to have my Mum and Daddy, who always seem so intent on giving me the greatest desires of my heart. Billy Joel, my father and I are impatiently counting the days.
