So I went to a polo match as part of Peter's "21st Birthday Weekend Extravaganza." I was, at first, slightly distressed. Because I thought the dress I was wearing looked bad on me and I was worried about the weather. When we got to Portsmouth it was kind of misty, but oh well. The weather actually cleared up quite a bit by the time the match started at 5 pm. Oh. And I got over the dress. It grew on me.
Anyway, a polo match consists of 6 chukkas, and each chukka lasts 7 minutes, with a half time in the middle. Each team has 4 players. The players all ride really big horses and swing really big sticks (that probably have an official name that I don't know and am too lazy to look up) to hit the ball into a goal. The goal that the team is trying to score in switches every time someone scores. The match I saw was US (the newport team) vs. France. In the first two minutes of the first chukka, France had scored about 4 goals. By the time the first HALF was over, the score was as follows: France: 11 US: 0. It was spectacular. Then half time when everyone walked all over the field. The US team actually decided to score some goals in the second half, and it ended up with the following: France: 14 US: 9. But it was still really exciting. Also, there was food.
Yesterday, I went over Peter's house for dinner, and we went swimming, which was really really cold. Today I'm wearing a black and white striped dress and I've done nothing exciting. However, I did get a book in the mail from bookmooch and Office for Mac from Greg. Yay for word processing! Also, I made a pretty necklace, which I will show you all later.
