Really she shouldn't be so surprised to see familiar faces, Melina's friends with many of the divas after all, and even if she didn't know some of them as well as she did others.. Maria still found plenty of people to talk to at the wedding reception. For now, however ,she's content to observe. Currently, for example, she can see Victoria chatting animatedly with Cherry, Trish and Eve and in another corner, she observes Lilian, Torrie and Beth. The divas, and former divas, aren't the only familiar faces of course, numerous male superstars are here as well. In fact, Maria has already spoken with Edge briefly and exchanged pleasantries with Jeff Hardy.

But as she continues her casual observation, the redhead notes that there is one guest present who has temporarily isolated herself... by her own accord or not, Maria is uncertain, and perhaps she just doesn't want company right now but that doesn't stop her from approaching anyway. So, with a smile on her face and a glass of champagne in her hand, Maria makes her way over.

“Amy?” She begins almost hesitantly as they were never the best of friends but not the worst of enemies either. “Would you... I mean, that is I...”

“You can sit down, if you want to,” the older woman's smile is short but sincere, “how have you been?”

Maria shrugs her shoulders ever so slightly, “I can't really complain, you know? I keep telling Vince that I want to wrestle but I don't think he really listens to me.”

Amy nods in understanding, “unfortunately, I know how that goes, all too well. But, if it's any consolation, Vince tends to ignore most of the divas and what they want.”

Maria bites down lightly on her lower lip, “and how have you been?”

“Keeping myself busy or distracting myself according to Jeff..” Amy trails off to regard the bubbles in the glass of champagne before her. “Enjoying the change of scenery and change of pace.”

“Jeff said that he wasn't sure if you would be here...”

The silence between them lapses on uncomfortable but doesn't slide into that territory.

“Mel might be a friend, Jeff might be an influence and being here might mean seeing everyone again, but...”

Maria won't lie and say that she understands because she has never been in Amy's situation, like many, she had seen what was happening. She had overheard the whispers backstage, the jeers from the crowd... but never once, at least not until Survivor Series, did she see the former diva cry. In fact, as she recalls, at the Anniversary show, Amy was mostly smiles with a good mixture of nervousness.

“I do miss this, sometimes and sometimes I wonder why I stayed for as long as I did.. but that has nothing to do with why I almost didn't come. And it's not that I absolutely feel the need to get married, even if I wondered some days if this would ever be for me...”

Maria follows Amy's line of sight, equally casual so it doesn't seem like they're outright staring at any one person... and that's when the younger woman notices. Amy isn't always looking at just one person, rather she's looking at the couples.

Cody and Beth, Melina and John, Natalya and Tyson, Candice and Randy... and so on.

“Nearly everyone has someone,” Amy speaks softly, manicured nails idly tracing the base of the champagne flute. “Really, it's not that I absolutely need someone to be happy, I don't ever want to feel that way. Just that it would still be nice to have someone... not the someone, but just someone.”

“But sometimes a someone is so hard to find.”

Amy nods, murmuring her agreement with a soft hum and neither woman brings up the topic again for the remainder of the reception. Instead they continue to observe and to chit chat, sometimes just the two of them and other times with various others at the table. And even if they were never the best of friends before, now that they understand each other a little bit better, the seeds of friendship have been sown... now it just needs to be watered and tended.
