Memories * the opening is shorter but it's meant to be that way as it's more of a continuation to chapter four.
Amy's right hand is poised near her hip, less than a second and she would be armed with her preferred weapon while a pair of daggers are concealed just above her boots. Scott doesn't even need to say the word and she'll be ready, the two waiting anxiously as the door slides open swiftly.
“Scott.”
“Thomas,” a slight smirk when the other male narrows his eyes just slightly, “Tommy... to what do we owe the pleasure?”
Tommy's gaze fixates on Amy, an unspoken question lingering as it returns to Scott. “When you left, do you remember what Paul E. told you?”
Scott nods shortly, mentally telling the vampire that Tommy is no real threat... “The time would come when my assistance would be needed, but only in a time of dire need and none other..”
“That time is not upon us yet, but..” Tommy frowns, “we need your help, Scott. Me, Rob, Lance and Dawn.. we can't hold 'em off anymore. And we're gonna lose the village if we don't do something quick.”
“From the most recent intelligence report that the House of Calaway was able to gather, the Rebellion--”
“Don't talk to me like that,” Tommy snaps back, “we're brothers, Scott, that's not how you talk to your brother.”
Scott presses his lips into a thin line, even if there has been no communication with the House of Calaway.. “How much longer until we reach the next station?”
Tommy shrugs, “next stop ain't until Beijing... train should be there soon.”
His mind made up, Scott simply nods, indicating for Tommy to also take a seat; “forgive my manners, Amy... this gentleman, ever loosely how the term applies, is Thomas... or Tommy as he always insisted on being called.” With a slightly less abrasive tone, he continues; “and Tommy, may I introduce you to Amy of the House of Calaway.”
Amy eyes Tommy as warily as he does her, tension growing thicker by the minute in the private berth. “Scott, can I speak freely?”
Scott hesitates, “... it would be best if any questions or inquiries were saved until we reach Beijing. There is a safe haven there, or at least, there was when I was last there.”
“It's still standing,” Tommy confirms with a wry smile, “one of the buildings that survived in our territory. I'll take care of security, make sure she ain't harmed.”
The smile on Scott's face is nearly feral, “they will have to deal with me first... and I do assure you, Tommy, Amy is more than capable of protecting herself.”
Silence blankets them, Amy staring at the carpeting while Tommy and Scott begin a game of cards. There are many questions raised by Tommy's sudden appearance... and likewise, Tommy has questions of his own. Not regarding Scott's whereabouts because he already knew that.. rather it's Scott's apparent connection with the redheaded vampire sitting in stone silence across from them.
Beijing, China
Though she has been to Beijing numerous times prior, Amy had never felt like such a stranger than the moment they stepped out of the train. They were met at the station, Scott and Amy provided with enough time to gather their belongings before they were ushered to a waiting vehicle.
“Before we reach the temple, Scott... I need to know,” Tommy's assessing gaze is once again on Amy, “I can sense it in her... she ain't like the rest of them.”
“You're right, Tommy, she isn't like the rest of them... she's not a mindless killer,” Scott paused, both to level a meaningful look at Tommy and to mentally send a message to Amy. “I trust her with my life.”
“That much is obvious,” Tommy replied dryly, “your blood is in her.”
Scott arches an eyebrow, “it extends beyond that... I would trust her, regardless.”
Tommy runs a hand through his thick, unruly hair. “She ain't a pup, Scott...”
“How much longer until we arrive to the Temple?”
That's both Tommy and Amy's cue to not say another word, verbally or otherwise. Scott has had enough for the time being, and without knowing how much Paul and Lord Calaway can sense... the werewolf can ill afford to take chances. If it was just him in this situation then maybe he wouldn't care so much but it's not... he has someone else's welfare to consider. And it is not until they are safely on Temple grounds that Scott decides it is safe to speak.
“What's going on?” Amy asks first, a pressing look in her eyes, “please.. you can't just bring me here and not..” Her jaw clenches when she catches sight of a growing crowd around them. “Scott, please... just tell me what's going on so I can prepare for the consequences later.”
Scott's sigh is near inaudible, “let me first assure you Amy, the moment we set foot on the grounds, the House of Calaway's advanced tracking system was rendered useless. And in the event that they do find out, it will not be from me most certainly, but I will take every step necessary to protect you.”
Tommy grunts to remind them that he's still there, “there's a tea room over that way, I gotta go meet up with Rob and Lance, let 'em know our big boy is back... however temporary.”
Amy follows Scott's lead, the two taking refuge where Tommy had indicated, the vampire standing uneasily in the ornately decorated room. “This, if we are ever found out, this is treason to the House of Calaway.”
Scott nods slightly, “yes... which is why, once I have told you why we are here... if you so wish, you will continue the mission alone. I may serve under the House of Calaway but my loyalties forever remain tied to the Rebellion. They are my family. I only ask that you wait until I have told you everything before you pass judgment or make a decision.”
Reluctantly, she nods... confusion raw in her eyes and the barest traces of doubt.
“The Rebellion stands for equality amongst all races, yours... mine, human. Regardless of our roots, the Rebellion believes that all are equal. And in the centuries that the House of Calaway and it's allies have fought to preserve the traditional ways, the Rebellion has fought back. But there is more to it then that, because the Rebellion also seeks to help the people... the humans, the ones who truly matter when all is said and done for without the humans... where would we be?”
Scott stands, pacing shortly as he gathers his thoughts, “the reason I have been called upon now is to assist a pack that has been under constant bombardment from an ally to the House of Calaway. This pack is important to the Rebellion, as all packs are, but even more so to myself, Tommy, Lance and Rob for it is our pack.”
“Whether they choose to become immortal is by their own decision, contrary to what the House of Calaway chooses to believe the Rebellion does not recruit. We merely provide them with a choice and an opportunity to make a difference.”
Amy finally sits, “and the time of dire need?”
Scott meets her gaze without hesitation, “that is when I must fully prove my loyalties, no matter what price I may pay. They are my family and I owe at least that much to them.”
The vampire is still wary about it all and Scott can sense it but he does not attempt to communicate mentally with her now nor does he attempt to read her thoughts. Whatever decision she makes must be made without any further influence from him... he knows she is loyal to him but he also realizes that her loyalties are tied to the House of Calaway.
“I can not ask you, in peace of mind, to join me in this cause; but I will ask you anyway because I will not take your choice. You can turn back at any point, Amy and I would never think to hold it against you.”
Amy is the first to look away, blinking once before she returns her gaze to his. “If I do this, if I take this first step in assisting you as I have always done... will you help me in return? Lord Calaway and Paul seem intent on keeping things from me.”
Scott can not keep the grin from forming on his face, “by whatever means necessary and using all resources within my grasp, I will assist you in your quest.”
Of course he's fully aware that she could change her mind at any moment, that she could very well turn back and return to the House of Calaway. Scott hopes that she will not do this, not only because she is one of the best warriors on the field but also because he has come to view her as a daughter. And while his betrayal may be uneasy to the House of Calaway may be a bitter pill to swallow initially... if she were to betray him, well, the dark haired werewolf doesn't wish to think of it.
