Moving too quickly for the eye to see, Jamie attacked the punching bag with a renewed ferocity. She hated being kept in the dark but she equally disliked the intricacies of politics within the vampire society. And she was also aware that Amy was second-in-command to Hunter, the blonde vampire never once envious of her elder sister’s position. Jamie was good at navigating the intricacies of society, charming ambassadors and foreign dignitaries and smoothing over negotiations. That had been a specialty, of sorts, when the clan was in their glory years in Austria.

And underneath that façade was one of the fiercest warriors of the Helmsley bloodline, a true femme fatale like Amy and Trish.

Jamie enjoyed the rush of combat just as much as Amy and Trish, always wanting to be involved whenever the opportunity would arise. She had insisted, quite emphatically, whenever they were training to always be included and Jamie always wanted to be at the frontline with the troops when they had been at war. Hunter had always encouraged his progeny to accompany him in battle, the sisters often commanding their own units. Once, Jamie had been trusted to lead the archers while Trish held command over the cavalry… Amy leading the infantry, personally.

And Jamie, like all of Hunter’s progeny, was well aware of his views on becoming involved with a werewolf… or, even worse in his eyes, a human.

But there was something that Jamie found irresistible about that human, Alex and something equally intriguing about the werewolf Sabin. Shaking her head sharply, Jamie continued to attack the punching bag with a series of kicks and punches; she had to stop thinking like that. Their friendship, perhaps, was all that could come of it.

Unless the ruling house changed their stance, Jamie knew it was futile to pursue any feelings that she might have developed.

Unbeknownst to Jamie, her sister Eve was having a similar inner battle. And though her weapon of choice, at the moment, was with twin katana; Eve was also letting out excess aggression. In the short time that she’d spent with John, Eve had managed to develop a meaningful attachment.

But Hunter would never approve, that much was clearly evident from the blond vampire’s reactions to Amy’s apparent close relationship with Punk.

Still, Eve reasoned that she could at least be friends with John… and sneak in moment whenever possible. She trusted that her sisters wouldn’t say anything and she knew that the servants wouldn’t breathe a word. Otherwise John wouldn’t have been able to stay in her quarters last night; Eve’s assigned chamber maid assisting the werewolf with sneaking back to his assigned wing.

Trish was still isolated in her quarters, security tapes and files piled on her desk.

One way or the other she was going to get to the bottom of the issue. One of the servants, acting as a messenger of sorts, had already informed her that Amy had found enough evidence to convict one of the suspects. And now Trish was trying to find evidence to convict the remaining suspect. And maybe then they could begin planning a rescue mission.

Like her sisters, Trish was concerned about the well-being of Mickie and Melina and obviously she knew that they were better off with all of the sisters present.

She also wanted Jericho back, the female vampire even considering offering him the gift of immortality when he was finally rescued. Of course she would have to get permission from Hunter and that was highly unlikely. Or if Jericho asked to be turned, Trish might be able to make the arrangement that way. But she wasn’t sure if he would agree to that or ever ask for it.

First things first, however, she had to get him back.

All activity in the fortress came to a grinding halt though when an overwhelming force trickled through the halls. Trish reaching for her gun as she moved quickly from the desk and towards the source of power. Needless to say, the last thing that she ever would have expected to see was a combat circle.

“Amalia of Vienna, descendent of Helmsley,” Beth spoke crisply, the female werewolf dressed for battle. “I challenge you.”

Across the circle, Amy stood in traditional combat attire, “Elizabeth of Brasov, I accept your challenge.”

Of course, no was really aware as to why Beth would be challenging Amy… or why she had picked this particular time with the enemy at the proverbial doorstep.

“You will lower your weapons, now,” Hunter ground out between nearly clenched teeth, the blond vampire standing in front of his progeny. “Now is not the time or the place.” Snarling towards Beth, he added, “and if you so much as take one step towards her, I will personally end your life- truce or no truce. You violate the invitation that was extended to you and I do not take kindly to having hospitality spat upon.”

Amy narrowed her eyes at her immediate enemy, “we will resolve when the opportunity presents itself. Mark my words, at war’s end, this will be settled.” The redheaded vampire made to go back to her quarters but was stopped by Hunter’s hand grasping her wrist.

Likewise, Beth was detained by an elder from the Brasov pack, the bystanders soon dispersing elsewhere.
