Tara walked out to the terrace in search of Amy, finding the younger woman seated on a wooden swing that was tied to a large magnolia tree.
“Are you okay?”
Amy turned towards her, a smile on her face and a sense of peace that hadn’t been there before evident in her eyes. “Yeah, I’m okay.”
Tara nodded, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, “we’re just about to start announcing winners for the auctions.”
Amy slipped her shoes back on as she got off of the swing, “and it’s just like we agreed on, right?”
“Your date will be with Evan, though whatever details of said date are up to the two of you.”
“Right…” Amy replied, the two women walking side by side. “And you’re sure that this doesn’t look… wrong?”
Tara grimaced a little, “to some, I’m sure it does but whatever. They don’t know you and they don’t know the situation. Punk’s my stepbrother but he’s a world class jerk.”
Amy nibbled lightly on her lower lip, “but that doesn’t excuse this.”
Tara hesitated, debating if she should share her suspicions with Amy. But she didn’t have any proof, just suspicions, so instead of saying something, she kept quiet. “When have you ever cared about what other people think?”
Amy rolled her eyes a little, “I don’t know… but I can just imagine some of the old grannies sitting on their porches with their afternoon tea, talking about how I’m corrupting the innocent Evan.”
“But you aren’t,” Tara reminded her, “and more importantly? Both you and Evan know that.”
“Yeah,” Amy said, the two women finally reaching the house and walking inside. “Thanks, Tara.”
Tara squeezed her friend’s hand, the two then finding Jamie, Josh, Evan and Alex; Amy seating herself at their table.
