Given their similar personalities, Amy’s come to expect arguments because when they’re both convinced that they’re right; neither is ever willing to bend.
And most of the time that doesn’t hinder their relationship because their relationship isn’t conventional by any stretch of the imagination; but when she wants to be able to bitch to a best friend she can’t because one of her best friends is also her boyfriend.
That complicates the already unstable and potentially volatile nature of their relationship but for the most part that were able to avoid any major outbursts on either of their parts.
He’s never told her that he loves her and she’s never told him, but it was something that was understood between them.
And though she would never pressure him to hear the words, it wouldn’t have hurt to have heard the three little words just once; if only to ease her mind just slightly.

But that doesn’t mean that it hurts any less when she finally comes to the realization that their relationship has run its course.
But he doesn’t exactly see it that way, and his words reflect that as such.
“Are you serious?”
And he looks genuinely confused, as if he can’t see what she’s seeing and what they’ve become together.
