One week later is the date auction though Punk skips out, stating that he has to work late but he does at least make a donation in lieu of participating. He’s also indifferent to Amy’s participating, knowing that she wouldn’t listen to him anyway if he told her not to.
Amy gets ready for the date auction at Tara’s apartment but that’s also because Tara lives closer to the Taylor Grady House where the event is being hosted.
The auction itself will be held silent auction style with the winners being announced at the end of the evening. Participants also have the option of bidding on locations and types of dates. The general plan is for the female and male participants to descend the stair case before the bidding starts, and then the rest of the silent auction will commence.
Businesses in Athens have donated prizes and dinner is included for all attending though only residents of Athens are allowed to bid. That restricts Alex from placing any bids but he does attend with his brother, Josh and Jamie.
Alex tries, in vain, to avoid Vickie, the woman commenting that it’s a shame he’s not participating before squeezing his backside.
After getting cocktails, they wander around the main foyer and into one of the sitting rooms, mingling with fellow citizens of Athens while they wait for the date auction to begin. And then Tara makes the announcement, everyone gathering back into the foyer near the staircase.
Each of the participants are announced by name and assigned number for the auction, Amy finding herself at the back and peering down at the crowd, hazel eyes searching for familiar faces.
“I still can’t believe Amy’s participating,” Josh said and then slid a glance over to Alex, “too bad you can’t bid.”
“Yeah well, rules are rules… not that I care for them anyway.” Alex watched the participants, catching the gaze of one in particular as she walked past him. “I don’t need a date auction to get a date, anyway.”
Jamie rolled her eyes a little, looking up to find a stormy expression on Amy’s face, there and gone in a second. The blonde woman filed that bit of information away to share with Tara later, knowing that her partner in crime would be just as interested in that development.
But that can wait until later because now, Amy is descending the staircase, the redhead nodding to Jamie, Josh and Evan as she passes by. Alex blinked at the dismissal, unsure as to what he had done, so instead he just enjoys the view.
With her heels, Amy is the same height as Evan if not slightly taller, a detail that doesn’t escape Alex and provides him with much amusement over dinner as they’re all seated together. But he doesn’t sit down until he’s gotten the phone number from that cute brunette, Alex tucking the number into the front pocket of his pants.
The action doesn’t go unnoticed by anyone at the table though Alex is only interested in one person’s reaction; a self-satisfied smirk barely ghosting on his mouth at the look on Amy’s face.
Jamie and Amy are soon discussing the other items that are up for bid when Tara arrives to speak with Evan, ascertaining that he’s going to bid in the date auction.
Jamie sent a curious look over to Evan, “are you bidding on a special person or just bidding to bid?”
The blonde woman was well aware as to whom Evan would be bidding on, but he humored her anyway.
“She’s sitting at this table,” Evan said, exchanging a look with Amy who was seated across the table from him.
Alex arched an eyebrow at that, “does Punk know about this?”
Amy shrugged, taking a sip of her white wine, “honestly? I don’t care. It’s for a good cause, anyway.”
Their conversation switched to wedding plans and birthday plans for Chris, Tara eventually taking Amy with her when the dance floor opened.
