Amy and Jamie stood in the kitchen, the two step-sisters working side by side to make breakfast for all of the house guests. There was already freshly squeezed orange juice, pineapple juice, milk and coffee on the table. They knew it wouldn’t be much longer before the rest of the occupants were awake, the opening of a door upstairs alerting them to movement.
They could hear stirring from the living room as well, Mickie and Jay making it to the dining room table just before Alex and Josh.
“Good morning,” Jamie greeted brightly, setting a platter of steaming hot eggs on the table.
Amy set out the sugar jar, creamer and coffee cups, “we figured that we’d go snorkeling today. And tonight, we’ll go on a manta ray boat cruise.”
Mickie poured a cup of coffee for herself, adding a little creamer and sugar, “and you two are sure it’s okay if we go?”
Jamie glanced between Alex and Josh, “technically it’s up to them since they paid for the tour.”
Josh blinked sleepily, cupping a full mug of coffee, “I can’t say that I care.”
Alex shook his head, “ask me after I’ve had at least one cup of coffee.”
Amy and Jamie waited until the rest of the houseguests had arrived to the table, the two step-sisters opting to eat at the kitchen counter. And true to his word, Alex gave his reply that he didn’t really give a rats ass if Chris, Adam, Jay, Trish and Mickie wanted to join the tour.
Amy secured her hair into a ponytail, “Paul’s supposed to be meeting us at the dock, right?”
Jamie nodded, rubbing sunscreen onto her arms, “yeah… unless you’ve managed to get a boat and your license overnight?”
Amy shook her head, sliding her sunglasses on, accepting the sunscreen from her sibling before reaching behind her to tug the bottom of her tank top up. “Can you get my back?”
“Sure,” Jamie replied easily, the pair watching as their guests mingled nearby.
Or to be more accurate, Josh mingled with Adam, Jay, Chris, Trish and Mickie while Alex stood off to the side.
“You know the point of a vacation is to have fun,” Chris directed the comment to Alex. “Not sulk in a corner.”
Alex rolled his eyes, hands bridging behind his head, “if I needed a reminder, I would have consulted a dictionary, not a jackass.”
Trish put a hand on Chris’ arm, “don’t, okay? If not for my sake than for Amy and Jamie, please.”
Chris held up his hands, “for you, I’ll try. But I won’t make promises. You know how it is, Trish.”
She rolled her eyes but did not reply verbally, willing to take what she could get at that point. Obviously she knew that some of the animosity between Alex and Chris would never die down, but she hoped that, at least for now, they could manage to get along.
