Alex exits the bar muttering about needing a cold shower, glaring at his best friend all the way to the parking lot. Amy cleans out the shot glasses, but does not re-shelf the tequila. Instead she cleans, the two women going over inventory and counting the money before they set up for tomorrow. If Trish or Christy don’t show up within the next fifteen minutes than Jamie and Amy will know that there’s no meeting tonight.
“Are you okay?” Jamie questions tentatively.
“I hate Alex.”
Jamie pats her friend’s hand, “no you don’t, Ames.”
Amy smiled wryly, “oh yes, I do Jamie. He’s cocky and self-centered and he barely uses the head above his shoulders.”
Jamie arched an eyebrow, “that last part never bothered you before.”
“Are you suggesting that I should just get over this numerous bad qualities and sleep with him?”
“If you really need to…”
Amy scrunched up her nose, “I’ll go into a sex shop before that happens.”
Jamie nodded slowly, clearly not believing her. “So, Josh and I talked… kinda.”
Amy glanced up from the spot on the bar that she had been cleaning for the past five minutes. “Uh huh…” She sent her friend an encouraging look, “and? Is he going to cancel the lease for his vacation home in Neverland?”
“Well, I don’t know about that exactly but… we’re back together.”
“Together, together?”
Jamie nodded, “yeah…. And maybe I don’t know how much longer they’ll stick around or if he’ll stick around when Alex thinks it’s time to leave but…”
“You owe it to yourself to try,” Amy speculated and then smiled when the blonde woman nodded. “I’m happy for you…. Both of you,” the redhead clarified. “But if he screws up, I will rip his arms off and beat his ass with them.”
“Only after I finish with him first,” Jamie quipped, eying the opened bottle of tequila. “I thought you weren’t going to open that?”
Amy hesitated and then shook her head, “impulsive decision.”
Jamie didn’t look convinced, taking note of the bar stool that lay innocently on the floor, the recently opened bottle of tequila and the spot on the bar that Amy has been cleaning for the past six minutes. “Would this have anything to do with Alex?”
Amy quickly shook her head, “he just makes everything worse.”
“Right….” Jamie closed the cash drawer, “can I just offer some advice?” And when Amy nodded, the blonde woman continued, “It’s okay to forgive him. And it’s okay to give him a second chance.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, J, but…” Amy trailed off, chewing lightly on her lower lip, “he’s done nothing wrong that I have to forgive him for and there was never anything substantial between us in the first place.” Shrugging, she added, “It was a convenient arrangement for both of us, not really a relationship because we didn’t want to commit.”
Jamie frowned, “but it could be if you wanted it to be.”
“It could,” the redhead agreed, “but that doesn’t mean that it will.”
They finish in silence, Amy finally moving on from the spot while Jamie finishes counting the money in the second register. And then when they’re done they set up for tomorrow before setting the alarm on the bar and heading home.
